The Ruling Overturning Roe is an Insult to Women and the Judicial System

Roe’s Death Will Change American Democracy

Of particular (and depressing/distressing) interest is the observation in the former reference:
“... the court is not going to stop at abortion. If you think that’s hyperbole, consider Justice Clarence Thomas’s concurring opinion in Dobbs [v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization], in which he called for the court to reconsider other constitutional rights that Americans have enjoyed, in some cases, for decades — including the right to use birth control, the right to marry the person of their choosing and the right of consenting adults to do as they please in the privacy of their bedrooms without being arrested and charged with crimes. These rights share a similar constitutional grounding to the now-former right to abortion, and Justice Thomas rejects that grounding, calling on the court to 'eliminate it ... at the earliest opportunity.'”

"American democracy" and "United States" have become oxymorons. The far right concentrates on nonsense while the CRITICAL issue of climate change, which will render all our petty squabbles moot, is not being addressed.

Notice that he omitted inter-racial marriage. (And that's on a par with his calling for people to accept unpopular decisions even as he overlooks his own wife's participation in the insurrection.)

Some companies, at least, support women. Apple supports out-of-state medical after Roe vs. Wade overturn and Disney tells employees it will provide ‘comprehensive access’ for reproductive care

When I was an undergrad in 1961, I took a required course called Health at Brooklyn College. At that time, condoms could only be purchased at a pharmacy, and they were behind the counter, not on the shelf. The instructor made it a point of telling us (all males, since Health was segregated by gender) that they were labeled for prevention of disease, not contraception, although everyone knew what they were for. At that time, birth control was illegal in Connecticut. Now that Roe v. Wade has been overturned, it would be prudent to buy stock in companies that make coat hangers. shocked mad (Yes, this is meant as black humor, even though it's not funny.)

It's already started with the recent ruling that overturned the ban on concealed weapons. I can only imagine how frightening it must be for an American citizen to see that their Supreme Court, which was once considered a shining bastion of judicial impartiality, is now a blatantly political tool of the Republicans and is largely comprised of people who lied during their confirmation hearings. In my opinion the really scary aspect, given the extraordinarily week rationale for their decisions, is that they are doing it "Just because we can",
