OS 10.14.6

I had a problem with my apple email so I did a back up and when I booted up from my HD, everything was ok except the the emails in the inbox were missing. The sent & trash emails were there.

Does anyone know what happened?

Does your e-mail provider have a web site where you can access your e-mails? If so, log in there and see what shows up. You may just need to download via Apple Mail or change the status from "read" to "unread" on the web site. But start with the web site and see what's what.

Also, when you say "I did a back up", what did you back up?

On a Mac since 1984.
Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

...and how did you back them up?

If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

Just a thought, but I had that happen to me once and I got a bit panicky. However, the cure turned out to be connected to the small circular icon at the top of the mail column in the panel where you Sort By. The icon is to the right and filters what is displayed. Mine was accidentally set to display "Unread" and because I had read all my mail....it looked like everything had disappeared. Worth a peek.

OS 10.14.6

I have a copy/backupof of my HD and when I had the email problem, I rebooted with my backup and copied it to my HD and then found the inbox to be empty.

I have since resolved the issue by rebooting again from my backup and putting the missing emails on a thumb drive and then rebooting from my HD to which I returned the emails.

Everything is now ok.
