I followed the instructions exactly wich are found at this link but the iPhone just says: "No people found. There is no one nearby to share with" iMac OS 10.14.6 - iPhone SE iOS 15.4.1 I am in the Contacts for both machines. The AirDrop on the iPhone is capable of sending as it will recognize my daughter's iPhone XR iOS 15.3.1

Are you sure the sending and receiving devices are within Bluetooth range of one another and that both have BlueTooth turned ON?
If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

AirDrop to the Mac requires wi-fi to be turned on, not Internet by Ethernet, although both can be on for AirDrop (turn off wi-fi after the drop if you have both). I have found that AirDrop requires the Mac to be in AirDrop mode before you try to send from the iPhone. Let the Mac "see" the iPhone first. Also, first tries may not always be successful, so turning wi-fi off and on again on the Mac may work. Also, make sure that you have the AirDrop settings in iPhone Settings>General>Airdrop set appropriately. It can still be hit or miss. It does not seem to be a perfect method of transfer and has frustrated me at times.
On a Mac since 1984. Currently: 24" M1 iMac, M2 Pro Mac mini with 27" BenQ monitor, M2 Macbook Air, MacOS 14.x; iPhones, iPods (yes, still) and iPads.

Thanks Ira, but I've finally given up. I decided to try DropBox and found "it just works". It's taking longer but at least it works.

I agree, and I too have resorted to Dropbox when AirDrop has sputtered. Either one though, is better than emailing the file to yourself (always a last resort).
