Since I've had Catalina my Favorites (not favorites bar) are in list view. I can't for the life of me make them into icon view like I used to have. I looked online and still can't find any directions on how to do this. Hopefully, someone here knows how to do this for Catalina.

Don't you see this in the top left corner of your Finder windows?

Just click on the "icon" icon on the left. (command-1/2/3 used to work but no longer does.)

Hi: Yes, in the finder window, but how does that help me get my icons back in my favorites instead of just words? Is there some place in finder I can adjust my favorites on Safari? That is what I was talking about, Safari favorite bookmarks.

I've gotta start listening to the little voice in my head that says "No, stupid, that's not what she meant."

Have you tried clearing cache and shutting down/starting up?

I'm always doing that. But, I just don't know what the procedure is to get them to be icons instead of a string of words. I looked at my older Mac which still shows icons (not Catalina) and I looked at my prefs and I still can't figure out what I did to get them to be icons. I've looked and looked online, and all I can find is how to make the Favorites BAR show icons or the tabs to show icons. I don't want the Favorites bar, it's too cluttered looking. I want my Favorites page to be icons. I really miss that feature. I wonder if it's been discontinued. frown

This is what I see when I click on the dots at the left end of my favorites bar in Catalina/Safari 14.0.

It's a natural evolution from Mojave with no action on my part required.

I've got no idea what's happened to your icons.

So it looks like if one doesn't use the Favorites Bar, they don't get the dots so they can see the icons. That didn't used to be the case. I looked at my favorites on my older Mac and I can see the icons even though I don't use a favorites bar. Image

I am not sure I am accurately understanding you but this is my start page in Safari 14.0.1. If I click on one of the folder icons this is what appears. If those are the icons you are referring to, this iDownload blog explains what those "icons" are and how to enable them on macOS and iOS/iPadOS. Favicons are contained in cache files and if, by any chance, you have been cleaning out your cache files, either by hand or using a utility app, you may have accidentally deleted them. If that is the case, they will be restored as you access the individual sites - provided you have them turned on in preferences.

Unfortunately, it looks like you are talking about tabs which is what the article is talking about. The article also said things changed after High Sierra, so I guess I am doomed and not going to be able to have icons show when I click Favorites in my bookmark link. If I am understanding this correctly, unless I use the Favorites Bar or decide I want icons on my tabs, I cannot have what I want.

I also can't find anything that says start page. I see the choices under Safari prefs here.

Your Imgur links in this and your previous thread aren't resolving into images, Rita.

Just a spinning "work" circle.

I also can't find anything that says start page. I see the choices under Safari prefs here.

Whether they are in the Sidebar, Tabs, Start Page, or Bookmarks the icons are "Favicons" provided by the referenced web site or defaults provided by the browser when one is not provided by the site.

If you are using Safari 14.x you will find Start Page referenced in Safari > Preferences > General > New windows open with:... and Safari > Preferences > General > New tabs open with:...

A far as I know there is no option to view bookmarks in icon view in Safari, Safari Technology Preview, or Firefox. But the app store lists several alternative browsers, perhaps one of those, Google Chrome, or Opera will do what you want.

I'm jumping the queue.

I'd swear that I could once show my favorites page with a hot key, but I can neither remember what it was nor find the option anywhere...BUT, I discovered that you can get the "Favorites dots" into your address bar by hitting View > Customize Toolbar... and dragging the "dots" icon there. (Like so!)

I also tested, and showing icons in tabs or not has nothing to do with their showing in Favorites.

Let's see if the relocated dots work.
