I updated to 10.15.5 via the Combo Update without incident. So far, so good.

iOS 13.5, iPadOS 13.5, and WatchOS 6.2.5 are also out and trouble free.

Given the timing I expect MacOS 10.16 will be available for beta testing within a few weeks. I wonder what Apple has in store for Catalina's successor?

Thanks for the link. I read the basics before I d/l'ed the beta, but it's "nice" (read "disheartening") to learn the details.

I guess I'll give Mike a break and create a new clone to test his new functionality.

More: It'll be interesting to see what happens, because I'm in the unusual position of running with SIP disabled, which enables me to clone to an APFS volume in the same container as my boot drive.

I wonder if it isn't getting time for Apple to increase their bottom line by selling naming rights...maybe macOS 10.16 Disneyland?

But I"m still partial to La Brea Tar Pits.

I tested it and it works. I was interested to read this as CCC does note that it is using the Apple Utility and I didn't know what that was about.

I did not test a clone on the same drive however. It seems to me the drive is the most likely point of failure so I prefer to spread the risk to another drive.

I actually maintain three clones: one on my external, which I update haphazardly tongue ; one in a separate container on my internal that's updated daily (kinda halfway between nothing and something); one in another volume in the same container as my boot drive, also updated daily, which is to test the functionality as Mike changes things, because I'm one of the few (if not the only) beta tester he's got who runs with SIP disabled. (That's actually led to a lot of interesting back and forths between me and Mike who, incidentally, is the most responsive developer I've ever dealt with in terms of the amount of detail he gives me when he responds to one of my emails. smile )

That last clone is the one I intend to test.

The only obvious change I've run cross since updating is that SIP is no longer (Well, I hope no longer.) re-enabled. cool smile

I had no problem with creating and running the task in 10.15.5.

FYI I am installing MacOS 10.15.6 even as I am making this post. No word on whether this is a bug fix, security patch, or both.

More Info: 10.15.6 is primarily a security update. It will likely be a short beta so watch for a 10.15.6 update coming to your Mac in the near future.

Even More Info: iOS 13.5.5 and iPadOS 13.5.5 are also in beta.

I noticed one peculiarity in the 10.15.5 update: In the Software Update preference pane, the box to Automatically keep my Mac up to date was checked, and I did not do it. I unchecked the box.

Ha! That happened to me with 10.15.3.

I caught it as it was beginning to do its thing when 10.15.4 was released.. mad

Apple is getting a bit pushy on some settings like "Automatically keep my Mac up to date". I know this will be annoying to some FineTunedMac users, but my experience with "average" users tells me this is a good thing designed to protect the uninformed.

But it happened to me only with the 10.15.3 update, not with either .4 or .5.

And while you've made a not unreasonable point, the act encroaches on the turf of those who may have a reason for not updating immediately.

No! It's not a reasonable approach to the issue.
