Is Ultimate Antivirus (free) as good as it claims?
Before I download it.

I can’t find a URL for a product called ‘Ultimate Antivirus’, so I would never trust that anyway. I only see ‘Ultimate Antivirus’ as a headline for several fake editorial sites.
-There sure is malware for Macs, but not real viruses. You can’t buy a product to safeguard you from clicking away on shady sites. Just use common sense and a bit of a suspicious mind, and you won’t need such products.

Nothing is as good as it claims to be. #2 Take Urquhart's advice.

I compare ANTI-VIRUS programs to human flu shots. The flu shot vaccine is only good for the KNOWN viruses. Theoretically, such a flu shot would be useless for a unknown virus that surfaces. Anti-virus software is only good as long as it discovers a virus before it travels around The Net. But how is it possible to discover a virus before it happens? It can only be discovered/addressed after it has surfaced somewhere on the internet - in which case, it may be already too late for some computers. Then comes the search for a "fix." P.S. Despite the imperfect simile, I still recommend seasonal flu shots for humans.

I did find Ultimate Antivirus but it is not free as when I first came across it. For what they are asking, it should be a good product, not that I will be buying it'. jay bass https://www.totalav.com/pricing

FWIW, HERE’s a recent review of Mac anti-virus/malware software.

After reading this TechSurvivors thread, I would stay away from Bitdefender.

I have just deleted Bitdefender after reading that thread you posted and I didn't have any problem at all.
I uninstalled Bitdefender with it's own uninstaller in utilities and then dragged the icon out of apps to the trash.
I then opened easy find and it found 5 more files which I trashed under file menu.
AFAIK there are no more bits left.
