This is probably moot, both by nature and because I've got Fash Player unchecked in Safari > Prefs > Websites > Plug-ins, but I've found that the two most recent Flash updates have caused my prefs in System Prefs > Flash Player > Storage/Camera and Mike/Playback to revert from "Block" to either "Allow" or "Ask" (...not sure which), "Ask", and "Ask".

I suggest checking those prefs after each Flash update.

Thanks for the heads up, Artie, but my FP preferences remain "Block", with no hint of a change.

FWIW, I completely uninstalled Flash from my MBP, quite some time ago back in early Sierra days, and I've not missed it. So, instead of worrying about its vagaries, try living without Flash Player. ...It can always be re-installed.

I"m close to uninstalling it, but it's still not a dead issue with me, so I'll live with the box unchecked for a while longer.

My post was primarily directed at those who are unaware that there's a box that can be unchecked.

OS 10.12.6

Since buying a new iMac, I have never looked at the settings for flash player but I see that Storage, Camera and mike & Playback are set to "ask"

Is there any disadvantage to leaving it as is?

The only reason I keep it is because I play bridge online and it is a prerequisite although it does say "one time use only" or words to that effect.

I don't suppose there's any downside to the "Ask" setting, and to be perfectly honest, I"m not sure why I'm so adamant about having my own prefs set at "Block". (Maybe I'm better off not knowing who's asking? tongue )

But even then with those sites which incorporate FP you'll find, that even when you've blocked it, your browser will 'ask' if you want it enabled. If you don't, then whatever it was on that site which required FP just doesn't get activated, and the site continues merrily on its way otherwise (ie, it usually doesn't do anything nasty vis-à-vis your access to the site).
[I regularly access several sites — http and https — where this is the case.]

Different "Ask".

We've been talking about Flash asking whether you want to allow Data Storage, Camera & Mike access, and Playback (as per Apps > System Prefs > Flash Player), not about allowing Flash, itself, to run.
