Has anyone out there got one of the new 24" iMacs. If so, what did you have before and what was your rationale in moving to the new size and new technology? Has the machine met your expectations?

I had thought there was already a release of the 24" iMac but, perhaps not. So, I'll change the question. Is anyone thinking of getting the 24" and what sold you on it, compared to what you have now?

According to this Apple page, the 24" iMac IS available.

Thanks Jon....I was aware of this upcoming delivery but, for some reason, I thought there had already been a release and that some people already had their hands on them. I guess not.

The machine has a lot of appeal and I'm interested in hearing what others are thinking....hence the changed question.

See the second post in this TechSurvivors thread. It refers to a blue iMac, which has to be the new 24" model, and the poster is using it as I write this. Also, see this BH search page. If you click on a particular model, you should be able to read reviews.

I actually had a 2012, 27" desktop. When it gave up the ghost in 2019, I bought the 21.5" instead. This size is plenty big enough for my purposes. In fact, I found the 27" too large for the "viewing" distance between my body/eyes and the monitor.

Splitting the difference with the 24" might work for me, too, but I have been satisfied completely with the 21.5" since 2019.

Personally I have become hooked on having two displays, so should you ever consider adding a second display, two 24" displays are significantly less overwhelming than two 27" displays, not to mention less expensive.

FYI: The builtin monitor on M1 iMacs, MacBook Pros, ands MacBook Airs is an HDMI connection so the external monitor can be up to a 6K display with any interface supported via Thunderbolt 4 (Thunderbolt 3 or display port, and with appropriate adaptors HDMI, VGA, DVI or thunderbolt 2)

Thanks for the thoughts. We were the opposite....going from 21.5 to 27 (2017) because of my need to see more of some large spreadsheets. It's perfect for that although, depending on the physical size (width x height) of the screen, a 24" might work just fine. That way I'd also be into a new level of technology and have the additional benefits the technology might bring.....except I'd hate to buy an M1 chip when an M2 could be just around the corner (who's indecisive?).

But just think what the M3 will have to offer when it comes put. It is bound to be at least in the preliminary design stage. laugh
