Having just been warned by DiskWarrior to back up all my files to another drive AND "install a new hard drive to replace the damaged hard drive.", can anyone recommend such a beast for my G4 Ti 867 MHz 40 GB Powerbook.
I know this might sound a "lazy" option, but, as I have just explained to jchuzi, I seem to remember getting nowhere (apart, OF COURSE, confused) fast when I previously looked for a larger one (due to iTunes music demands). I seem to remember a whole host of "options", but was unsure of which route to go. I eventually transferred the music to an external drive.
I really look forward to any suggestions - I don't require a massive capacity, 80 - 100 GB or thereabouts would be fine.

I have had good luck with Hitachi drives. You'll need to buy a Parallel ATA drive for your model, which originally came with a 4200 RPM drive. The only drives that I can find run at 5400 RPM and I don't know if your laptop can handle the higher speed (someone else will have to respond). For ideas, visit this OWC page.

FWIW, I have bought a total of 6 Hitachi drives (for desktop computers, not laptop) and have had no problems with any of them.

Are you asking about an internal hard drive for your PowerBook G4 867 MHz?

iirc the tibook is LBA28 meaning you can use at most a 120gb hdd. Anything over that will detect as a 128gb and you will lose the extra space. (but ok to use say, a 160, if that's all you can find)

It uses a 2.5" IDE drive. They're easy to replace. Mind your jumpers.

otherworldcomputing.com has drives I think for that model.

If I remember correctly I was confused by choices/terms such as ITE, ATA, SATA and was not/still am not sure which is compatible. I think the "dead: one is ATA, but is SATA suitable.

Your drive is a Parallel ATA (PATA) drive.....Serial ATA (SATA) won't physically or electronically connect with your computer interface.

That should make things easier with choices for you.

Having checked, at the moment, just one source (here in the UK), the recommended choice, in fact the only one for my model is a Western Digital Sorpio 120 GB 2.5" 5400 RPM, now, wait for it, IDE.
Again, if my memory serves me correctly - which unfortunately it doesn't very often - aren't they the "same" effectively?

Yes, for all practical purposes IDE and ATA are pretty much identical (see Wikipedia for the dirty details). And having looked online for UK offerings, I find relevant (2.5" 120GB IDE/ATA 5400RPM) drive mechanisms from Samsung, Western Digital, IBM/Hitachi, Seagate and Toshiba in the price range of £29-£49 + VAT in only two top Google listings. Despite the fact that the industry has moved to SATA, an ATA drive rarity may only be perceived, particularly if you realize you only need one replacement drive...

As you may have observed in my other post (TDM problem associated with "dodgy" Hard Drive????), I have done the deed. I'm only posting again to try to keep both topics "tidy".
As stated "therein", it was not without problems, but at the second attempt/installation of drive, it was duly recognised. By the way Virtual1, I did not encounter any "jumpers", but in double checking, I discovered the "loose" connection on the HD/logic board cable.
