It is easy to have Notifications show birthdays by entering the date of birth in the appropriate field in Contacts. However, there seems to be no way to add anniversaries. I found a workaround, however. A young couple married in July and my wife and I want to be reminded of their anniversary. Yes, I could enter it into Calendar, but that's a one-time entry that would have to be done for each year.

Here's the workaround:

Create a new contact in Contacts. In the last name field, type the last name of the couple. Then, type "anniversary" in the first name field. Now, enter the anniversary date in the Birthday field. Voilà! Calendar now shows the last name followed by "anniversary" and Notifications will give you advance warning.

I click on the plus sign in Contacts to add a new field and at the bottom of the list of fields select More Fields > Date and for the title of the filed choose Anniversary. Like Birthdays, Anniversaries is a calendar event that can be turned on in Calendar. When it appears in calendar it tells me not only whose anniversary it its but which anniversary.

Thanks for that, Joe. Unfortunately, the anniversary was not added to Calendar by following your procedure. I still had to put under Birthday.

Does it depend on the version of Calendar? I have Version 11.0 (2245.5.3) and entered our anniversary date, which appears on the wedding date and repeats, although it does not say which anniversary. The result was different when I entered my daughter's anniversary date in her Contact card. It is noted in the card, but it does not appear in Calendar anywhere.

Oops, I use Fantastical and in Fantastical > Settings > Calendars > My Calendar set > Reminders > Contacts there is an option for anniversaries. Unfortunately that is not true in Calendar.

Fortunately, my workaround is successful.

Yup....and now I have no excuse for forgetting my daughter and son-in-law's anniversary.

I just found out (from a poster in another forum) that you can enter an event in Calendar and then, when you see the details, click Repeat to choose how often the event will be repeated. "Yearly" is one of the options.

I gave it a try and that works and is an easy option, but doesn't provide the numerical reference 5th, 6th, et cetera. However, for stuff that is simply repeated at regular intervals it's great. For example, I have one of those battery boosters that just hooks up to a car battery rather than the unwieldy linking of two cars via booster cables. The booster requires checking the charge very three months, which needs reminders.....and that just got a lot easier than copy and paste.

For anniversaries you could include in the original description the year of the marriage/event. Then when it shows up annually, with a little math, you will know the numerical reference.

Yes...or in the "Notes" where you can also have other pertinent details. e.g. Uncle Ernie got drunk as a skunk.
