OS 10.14.6
I think I asked this question before but I clicked something? and all files moved over to the right side. How to rectify this?

It's probably too late for this, but if you had clicked Command-Z immediately after this incident occurred, it might have righted itself. Other than that, the only remedy that I know is to manually move the files back.
Thanks Jon,
I cannot drag any of the files to the left side so I guess I'll have to wait. I think artie put me right before...artie?

I thought this question came up once before, but if I responded, I've got no idea what I said.
But, I just went looking, and in my Safari 15, hovering over the green button in the top left corner offers up the option I think you're looking for.
artie,
I highlighted a file on my desktop and under view, I clicked "snap to grid" and the desktop reverted to how it was.
A suggestion by my son.

Thanks for posting that. It makes me wonder if I misunderstood your question.
I thought you were talking about open windows, but it appears that you were talking about your desktop icons.
Perhaps you can still help me.
Now when I drag a file on my desktop from right to left it immediately shoots back to the right. If I press command and drag a file to the right, it stays there.
Any ideas?

While in the Finder go to View>Sort By and (note what you have checked before making this change) choose "None". This should turn off "Snap to Grid" and whatever other arrangement options you have. See if this does what you want. If not you can always return to the previously noted options.
Ira, Your instructions worked like charm. Thank you.
