Upon re-opening an Excel spreadsheet (Office 2011 V 14.7.7), the document has expanded past the bottom of the screen and I cannot access the bottom part of the sheet. i.e. totally unable to navigate to different sheets in the document. I've looked around and haven't found a solution that works. Any thoughts?

Try toggling through Full Screen and back to see if that restores your ability to navigate to the bottom of the spreadsheet.....

My experience with Excel is woefully out of date, but as I recall from my days in Microsoft Tech Support my first thought would be there has been a change in the typeface or point size that is creating the problem. Even the same typeface and size from a different font factory could do it. Has anything that might effect the font changed on your system changed since the last time you opened that file? On the assumption Excel is using the default application font, you could try reducing the Application font size. My go to app for that is Marcel Bresink's freeware app Tinkertool but there are a number of others both free and not free.

How do I do that? I can't find anything in the toolbar that would seem to allow me to do that....can't even locate anything called Full Screen.

Nothing that I am aware of, and certainly nothing deliberate…as I haven’t done anything with fonts for several months when I last ran Font Book.

Nope…doesn’t make any difference. It seems that the bottom of the workbook just wants to be off screen. Using “Go To”, I went to the very last row and still could see the bar that allows me to go from sheet to sheet.

Note: This sudden issue is just with this workbook. I opened some others and they are all just fine.

Maybe try doing a command-A to select your entire workbook, followed by command-C to copy it, and then command-V to paste it into a newly created workbook?

I think I had the same problem once, and that may be how I fixed it.

Also, have you tried deleting the empty lines at the bottom of your workbook?

I haven't tried this, but it's worth making this suggestion: Adjust the screen resolution to a greater value. That will make all the print smaller but it may also reveal the bottom of your Excel window. After you are done, you can reset the resolution. To do this, go to System Preferences > Displays and select the Display tab. Select the Scaled radio button and go from there.

Thank you....that did it. Interestingly, it took two attempts. The first time, it didn't expose the bottom bar but simply restored the original problem. However, as it made the resolution change (following the short interval of black screen), there was a very quick flash of the workbook in its entirety so I thought it was worth a second try and I repeated the sequence. It was a case of "second time lucky".

You're very welcome. I'm glad that it worked for you.

An after the fact reply for info....congratulations on finding your way out of the dilemma.

If you hover your cursor over the little Green dot in the upper left corner of the Excel window, you should get a tool-tip contextual info that will tell you about entering Full Screen mode....and OBTW, to exit Full Screen mode simply hit the Escape key. To show the header portion of the Window (which seemingly goes away while in Full Screen mode), simply run your cursor up to the top limit of your screen and the header will pop down into view....this would also allow you to exit Full Screen mode by toggling the little Green dot a second time.

Thanks….I was doing some serious sweating for a while there.

No info on my Excel (14.7.7). Hovering over the green dot produces two opposing arrows and clicking on it expands the sheet dramatically.

I believe that the green dot options to which Macmaniac is referring only occur in Catalina and Big Sur (and I'm not sure about Catalina, but I definitely see them in Big Sur).

I've got no way to test that, but I can say that I see the options in Excel 2016 (in Big Sur), but ryck is running only 2011.

In Catalina hovering over the green dot gives three options: full screen, tile window to the left of screen or tile window to the right of screen. Cool. grin
