I bought EasyEnvelopes and can't use it. It is easy enough to create an envelope, but it appears horizontally on the screen, and my Epson printer requires that the envelope be fed vertically. Consequently, this app is of no use to me.

The Help menu is of no help, and contacting the developer has been impossible. The page keeps timing out and Safari says that it cannot open the page. I attempted to get a refund from Apple but that has been refused. Luckily, I can print envelopes created in Pages, but that's more convoluted than I want.

If anyone uses EasyEnvelopes, please advise me of a workaround if you can. Otherwise, can anyone recommend a similar app? I see some listed in App Store but I have already been burned once and don't wish to repeat the experience.

The print dialog pane doesn't offer you a "rotate" option?

There is a rotate option but it is grayed out. Bummer!

I briefly tried using EasyEnvelopes several years ago and ran into the same issue. The only solution I ever found was to print the envelope to a PDF then open the PDF in Preview and there I could rotate the image. Obviously that was not a satisfactory solution so I created a template in NeoOffice and like your experience in Pages that too was clumsy.

The solution I use today is a Brother QL710 wireless label printer and the accompanying software. I just print the labels and stick them on the envelope. They are excellent quality and I have never had an issue with one coming adrift in the mail.

We're old enough to remember when an envelope with Pitney-Bowes postage was looked upon as junk mail. I tend to feel the same about envelopes with labels. Has time passed me by?

I went to the link and note that the publisher is Ambrosia Software, which would account for unfixed issues and your inability to contact the company. The software not getting any bug-fix attention because Ambrosia is no longer in business.

I have two or three pieces of Ambrosia software and, when one of them decided not to recognize my registration number, I tried to contact Ambrosia only to learn they had gone the way of the Dodo Bird. It's too bad as they were a decent company.

[rant] The industry standard companies, like QuarkXPress and Adobe InDesign, are using their positions to gouge on price, and the subscription model came about because people found ways to avoid paying the exorbitant prices. I've kept an eye out for alternatives and you might like to investigate Affinity Publisher. They have a half price sale on. They have a free trial period, but for £24 for a lifetime license, you get a top quality application for the price of a month's subscription to Adobe CS.

I've bought all their applications (Publisher, Photo and Designer) and they are first class and have decent online tutorials and user forums.

I'm not shilling for the company, just a happy customer.

Thanks for the recommendations, but I think that I'll pass. I rarely need to print an envelope and find it faster and cheaper to simply hand-write the address and affix my return address label. In the few instances where I feel the need for a more formally addressed envelope, I can still use Pages and put up with its unnecessarily complicated interface.

A windowed envelope works for me, as long as you get the address on your letter located properly.

Why does Apple allow software by a dev who's pocketing the money but not supporting the app (which hasn't been updated in 7 years) to be sold on the App Store?

The interface for envelopes in the latest version of Pages is not that complicated. Sure, not the same as EasyEnvelope's widget (which I too used until it stopped working), but you just open a new envelope "document" from the Template Chooser (Stationery) and type in your address info. Maybe the number of envelope options is annoying—what is the difference between a Modern Envelope and a Business Envelope—but at least it works cleanly.

I wondered the same thing. Shareware gives us many good software choices that don't cost an arm and a leg, but it won't be there if we don't support it. If this kind of thing is allowed, people are unfortunately going to be disinclined to pay for the shareware and, eventually, there will be less and less. That hurts both us and the developers.

Not to mention Apple's bottom line, which is usually their primary concern.

What is even more curious to me is it wasn't that long ago when Apple went through the App Store offerings and removed lots of old software packages because they were not actively supported (ie. had not been updated in a given span of time, 3 years as I recall). So how did EasyEnvelopes slip by?

Apple did email me, asking for an evaluation of my experience with them. They won't like what I told them, but I let them know that their behavior is unacceptable.

I just filed a dispute with Discover, so we'll see if I get satisfaction that way. I feel like David taking on Goliath, but Discover may have just the slingshot I need.

David took on Goliath and David won! Discover refunded my money and Apple automatically suspended my iTunes and App Store accounts. A phone call to Apple solved the problem. Apparently, if you cancel a charge, App Store goes "tilt". The rep told me that I should have consulted Apple first and I kindly informed her that I did, to no avail. At any rate, there was no problem reinstating me to the land of the living.
