I've used Jing, but always had trouble setting window. Any great intuitive easy screencast software that just records the full screen easy? Thanks.

I don't know if it meets your needs, but I've used QuickTime Player.

Thanks Art, the player disappears when I test it. When click record the player/ recorder vanishes.

Also, big file... 40- -100 mb what dropbox these to people/

Yep! QuickTime Player generates VERY LARGE files, but that can be mitigated by recording only a portion of your screen if that suffices.

The recorder vanishes because it's not needed once you start recording, and to stop recording, you must quit QTP, because as opposed to the on-screen instructions, there is no "Stop" button in the menu bar.

ok thanks wow very weird non intuitive, usually a player still on screen, so quitting is ending? got it

I get a stop button in the menu bar; clicking it stops the recording, simultaneously cueing it up in a viewing window and vanishing the button. (OS X 10.13.4, QuickTime Player 10.4.)

Aaah! I was looking for "Stop" on the left side of my menu bar, and I just realized that it's on the right side. crazy

Thanks.

Got that kevs?

thanks DK Art, yes now getting more intuitive, great.

One weird thing happens though, when I launch QT it brings up a finder window, and I have to click Done to dismiss that. Why is it doing that?

And it would be nice to see a counter/ timer while recording for verification.

I haven't got your Finder window issue. How are you launching QTP?

If you search MacUdate for "screen capture" and/or "screen recorder" you'll find alternatives to QTP, including some free ones, that may be better suited to your needs. I mentioned QTP simply because it's already on your Mac. (I've used it successfully for my very minimal needs.)

Yeah, happens on laptop too, just test, but goes away if ignore it.

QT does seem most intuitive unless someone chimes in for another.

But no counter?

The app store catalogs 143 screen capture recording — I would be surprised if there were't at least a few that would fit key's needs.

Thanks JOe, well I stumbled up Jing a while back but always found the window making part, where select, very clunky.

I think QT is much more intuitive than Jing, so I'm now with QT.

Though wish there were a timer and I wish the screen did not go so dark outside selected window, I can barely see the stop button in the menu bar.

I would not have the energy to search for a superior screencast, but if someone else does that research and finds even better than QT let us know!
