I am using a Macbook White with 2.13 GHz Intel core 2 Duo running OS 10.6.8 with 4 GB memory and would like to upgrade the system.

Having Adobe CS5 for design etc and MS Office 2011 I would be grateful to know how far I can upgrade the system without compromising the software.

I have a 2 GHz MacBook with 4 Gb RAM and a SSD running 10.10.3 and CS5 and Office 2011 without issues.

The only caveat about CS 5 is that it requires Java 6, which is absent from Yosemite. That's the bad news. The good news is that you will be prompted, after installing Yosemite, to download and install Java 6. That's what happened to me and Photoshop CS 5 works fine. As to MS Office, I don't have Office 2011 but Office 2008 works well. As Freelance said, Office 2011 is OK also, as I would have expected since the previous version works as well.
