An off topic question. Just got the latest Mac Pro (8-core Xeon, the cheapest model) and am running TTP5 (the latest update). So far, so good. The only funny thing is that the computer model is called EUE and the build date January 2001 (instead, I guess, of 2011). Is that a TTP's problem or computer's?

I'm sure we'll hear from MMT3, but I suspect the issue is with TTP and that it won't affect its operation at all. For instance, my G5 iMac is depicted as a Mac Pro and that never stopped TTP from doing its job.

As to the model number TTP called for your Mac, you might want to check System Profiler's Hardware Overview and see what's listed under Serial Number (system). I suspect the 'EUE' string is part of that number.

Thanks, guys! First, the serial number advice was correct. It does end with EUE. As to the manufacturing date, there is a catch. I found two programs that detect manufacture date. One is an online program, chipmunk (http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html), that states the date being the week of February 5, 2011 (it gets the info from typed-in serial number). This makes sense. The other program is downloadable and works from the computer detecting the manufacture date from the machine (coconutidentityCard 2.4). This one states that the date is between 01/29/2001 and 02/04/2001 (!). Looks like the manufacturer (Foxconn) did not write the right info in the computer. I think, therefore, that TTP5 gets the date of manufacture off of the computer right (unless both programs made the same mistake, which I doubt).

P.S. the coconutidentityCard software also checks whether the computer is in the stolen computers database. Mine was not

Right, but I think it is the manufacturer's fault (just 1 digit error). On my 17" MBP (early 2009) both programs correctly identified the dates and the year 2009. The funny thing is that this MBP bought directly from the Apple store online was reported as stolen. The good news their web site used for tracking (www.powermax.com) cannot be resolved. But the real deal stolencomputers.org reported that it was not stolen (no serial in their database)...

the format for the mac sns is PPYWWxxxxxxxx where PP is the plant code, and Y and WW are the year and week of manufacture. So with only one digit to represent year, there is ambiguity between 2011 and 2001 when Y is "1". This has been an issue for several years
