I really didn't know how to give this a subject. My Mac is partitioned OS 10.3.9 and OS 9.2.2. System Preferences>Start up Disk>Mac OS 9.2.2 on Old HD the mouse can move but nothing is clickable. I get out of this with Command Option P+R.
Can I open OS 9.2.2 and drag items I want to the desktop and put them into !0.3.9HD? Can I "unpartition" and put that space into OS 10.3.9? I have been told that the problem with OS 9.2.2 is because I recently purchased a digital monitor. Any help appreciated!
Stan, I'm no expert on this but I do have experience.
My old G4 is the same one as yours and is running OS 9.2.as- high-as-it-was-possible-to-go. It works perfectly well because I don't mess with it, ever. I eventually bought an iMac OSX because the G4 OS9 was upgraded both hardware and software as far as it was possible to go (including extra RAM from Crucial). All internet browser development for Mac OS9 stopped and the last one, IE, became ridiculously unworkable, so, a new iMac it had to be.
On a previous Mac I partitioned the disk (to run some MS apps) and regretted it from then onwards. I'm always wary of partitioning disks because I think the only way back, to unpartition it, is to wipe the disk completely. Hope you have a good back-up regime!
I don't think you can drag OS9 items to the OSX partition but I could be wrong. Jon or Tacit would know. I also don't think your new monitor has anything to do with it, since it's mouse inactivity you report.
I don't know if any of that will help, but at least here's someone who has been there before you and eventually had to stop doing that and buy new kit.

Just out of interest, why do you want OS9 these days anyway? I know why I do.....but why do you? What apps are you running on OS9?
And just in case Jon/Tacit agree that the only way out is to format your partitioned disk completely, how are your back-ups? You'll need to back up ABSOLUTELY EVERY SINGLE THING before you do this.....all the applications and all the user files you've created, on both partitions.
Assuming you'd reformat it to OSX, your OS9 apps wouldn't work thenceforth unless you're prepared to translate the user files first, into some format which is mutually recognisable: spreadsheets for instance to be converted to one type; WP documents to another type; databases to yet another type; graphics to another one. It's a long hard job, I've tried it.
On a positive note, it's good for de-cluttering. Do you really need all the stuff which accumulates on the OS9 side?

It is possible to drag the "System Folder" (the OS 9 folder that is) from the OS 9 volume onto the OS X volume then boot into OS X and in Systems Preferences point to the copy on the OS X partition to be used as the Classic environment in OS X. If you want the OS 9 to be bootable and not just the classic environment it is necessary to "bless" the new location by
- Drag the file "System" from the OS 9 System Folder into another folder or onto the Desktop.
- Drag the file "Finder" from the OS 9 System folder to the same location.
- Select both files together and drop them back into the System Folder you want to bless.
or at least that is how I remember "blessing" an OS 9 folder, but it has been a long time since I did it and memory may have failed me.
so long as the drive was formatted with OS 9 drivers of course. always a good idea to check in advance.

Don't need anything in OS9.2.2. I did use it for PS 6.0 which was the only was I could access my Scanner.I do have the PS 6.0 disk.
I could reinstall into OS 10.3.9.
Since OS 9.2.2 is on 9.5 GB Maxtor and OS 10.3.9 is on 111.8 GB WDC, couldn't I just take out the Maxtor, somehow erase it and put it back into OS 10.3.9 and I would now how have additional 9.5GB?
I think my problems started when I bought a digital monitor and had to put in a Radeon 9200.I told the Radeon people that I have OS 10.3.9 and OS 9.2.2 in the computer…they said not to worry!
