I downloaded SpeakerAmp.app to my Mac recently because the plug-in laptop speaker I used from Logitech went out on me. The amp helped a lot. I bought another plugin speaker and deleted the SpeakerAmp via AppCleaner and double checked with EasyFind. It looked like it was gone. But it's not. It still shows up in my speaker options and prevents me from controlling the volume on my Mac with the volume controls on the plug-in speaker like I was able to do before.

Where else can I look to get rid of every bit of this app?

Thanks.

EasyFind is a good app but it won't necessarily find everything. You could try Find Any File, which has worked well for me.

Thanks for mentioning EasyFind again, Jon. I think it's time I d/l'ed it and did a side by side with FindAnyFile.

I downloaded Find Any File and it did, indeed, find more files than either Easy Find or AppCleaner did. I can now change the volume of my plug-in speaker with the proper controls!! So great. There is one thing though. When I checked in Sound on System prefs and clicked on it, SpeakerAmp.app still shows up. And if it randomly lands on that, I get no sound until I change it back to internal speakers or my external plug-in speaker. I wonder why that didn't disappear. I restarted my Mac but it is still there. Any ideas? I am very glad for the results I did get though. Whew! Thank you.

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063 Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

I reset it recently, and much to my displeasure, I learned that it affected something I had no idea it would affect, so I'm thinking that you may be running into a similar situation, particularly since NVRAM/PRAM does store volume data.

So you're telling me to reset NVRAM/PRAM even though you had a bad experience? LOL!

I wouldn't call it a bad experience so much as an unexpected one that came with a disappointing result.

I still don't understand why, but functionality I had expected to lose when I upgraded to Monterrey was somehow, happily, perpetuated in NVRAM, but it was finally lost when I reset.

I'm thinking that something similar may be happening in your instance.

Assuming you installed SpeakerAmp from the App Store:

The latest versions of Tinkertool System and other third party app uninstallers will no longer remove App Store apps and even Hazel throws warnings if she discovers an App Store app in the trash. I have no idea what or why this is, but the developers of those apps apparently know something I don't. (In fact, they know a LOT of macOS internals than I know or am likely to ever know shocked ) Their recommendation for removing App Store apps is deleting them from Launchpad, not via seek and destroy which is what you did and how they typically remove apps.
  1. Find the app icon in Launchpad,
  2. click and hold on it until the app begins to shake back and forth,
  3. then click on the circled x that appears at the upper left corner of the icon.

Since you have already deleted SpeakerAmp by an apparently non-approved method you might try reinstalling it from the App Store and then deelting it using the approved method.

I may try that and hopefully go that route from now on. Thanks for the info.

The SpeakerAmp.app developer kindly gave me instructions so I could get the name of his device off of my sound options.
SpeakerAmp.App
