Now that I am running Mojave, I cannot check my HD's directory. I was given a code# to quote. Alsoft asked me these questions:

What is the reason for running DiskWarrior?

What type of hard drive is being repaired? What does DiskWarrior show for the capacity of this drive?

How is the hard drive being connected?

What other utilities were run in an attempt to repair this drive, prior to using DiskWarrior?

Are you launching DiskWarrior from a hard drive (if so, what operating system is running on this computer) or is the computer started up from the DiskWarrior USB Flash Drive?

What is the year and model of your Mac?

What operating system is the Mac running?

Is your Mac Intel or Apple M1 based?
I answered all of those questions. I can open D/W but Im' told I cannot check the directory. Q what use is D/W now? Is there any alternatives? jaybass

TechToolPro can check and repair the directory, and I believe that Drive Genius can as well. As to your specific issue (and this happened awhile back when DW worked for pre-APFS volumes), I booted from an external drive and had to disable some Adobe activities via Console. I don't remember the specifics but a look at Console may give you some ideas.

I haven't run or even upgraded DW in years, so I'm not really up on it, but that question implies that it's for hard drives, NOT the Fusion or SSD drive you've got (according to Mactracker).

Could that be part of your problem?

To emphasize one of the questions Alsoft asked you—you cannot run DiskWarrior from the drive you want to check/repair. It must be run from a different drive/flash drive which you then use to start up your computer.

D/W 5,2 cannot rebuild directories but version 6.0 I understand will be able to when Alsoft finally releases it...whenever that might be.

AFAIK, that will include my HD.

That is true. The problem is the APFS that apple introduced which D/W can't handle YET.

Like Artie, I haven't used DiskWarrior in years, quit renewing Drive Genius a few years ago and finally bit the bullet a month or so ago and chose not to upgrade TechTool Pro because although TechToolPro is IMHO the overall the best and most complete system maintenance and repair facility on the market...

• TTP's one remaining unique and most valuable feature, full disclosure of S.M.A.R.T. values for HDs and NVME for SSDs, is available in Micromat's Drive Scope for less money than the TTP upgrade price (and hopefully will soon be M1 and MacOS 12 certified — although it does work on M1 Macs and Monterey).
• Disk Utility has been improved and does a good job of volume repair on either macOS Extended or APFS formatted drives
• Volume and File optimization is unnecessary on SSDs and in fact TTP and DG no longer optimize SSDs.
• I recognized that although I had an up to day version of TTP the only time I had used it was to try it out after I Installed the last update.

As I said, "Disk Utiity has been improved…" so why not simply run Disk Utility > First Aid. It will work, it is free, and it can repair 99+% of any errors in the volume struture. What it won't do is optimize (ie defragment) the hard drive or HD portion of the Fusion drive.

I had a senior moment while posting this. I should have said ACTIVITY MONITOR instead of Console.
