Remote Control for Mac

I want to be able to stop and/or start a video on my mac from a remote control or my phone. Does this seem like the answer?

I have never used that but I do use the
Apple Remote
(that used to ship in the box with a new Mac),
Apple Siri Remote
that adds voice control.

Looks like the remotes now are only for Apple TV. If I decide to do it, I will try to pair my iPhone to my Mac.
