One great feature was you tube would remember where you are in video even if you closed out and brought up again.

This stopped working for me. Not sure, only culprit I can think of is adding Ghostery, ad blocker..

The recall feature may require a cookie. Anything you have blocking that?

Good question!

Google used to place a cookie that allowed us to set and save search results page parameters under any circumstances, but at some point they reconfigured the cookie so it's placed ONLY if we're logged in to Google and disappears when we log out.

I wonder if they've made a similar move with the YouTube cookie...if, in fact, there is a cookie involved?

Thanks Ira, do you know Ghostery, and how to let the cookie stay for you tube?

(and would it keep the ads off still)

If not I'll send email to them..

But your pretty sure if You Tube remembers exactly where your video left off, even after a computer reboot that is the cookie?

Don't know Ghostery. What the cookie does could depend on the creators' preferences.

I just checked on my system using the Cookie app and found YouTube implants
  • 6 security cookies (which expire after 2 years)
  • a LOGIN INFO cookie (expires after 2 years
  • a PREF Cookie (expires after 1 week)
  • a Visitor Info cookie (Expires after 1 year)
  • an indexed database
  • a local store
Without further information from the developer, I would put my money on the PREF cookie containing the information on where you left off viewing or possibly it is embedded in the indexed database. If my first guess is correct it would mean the information on where you left off viewing would automatically disappear ~7 days after the initial viewing.

Have you ever tested to see if you get the SAME results BOTH when you ARE logged in to Google and when you're NOT logged in?
