This morning, while visiting two favourite media sites, my Cookie software identified a bunch of new cookies I had never seen before. They were not being identified by my Ghostery software. After the 17th new cookie I stopped writing them down.

To check, I visited a couple of retail sites but these cookies were not there. However, when I went to media sites, other than the two I mentioned, the same cookies would start popping up. Anyone having a similar experience?

I can't say anything about those particular cookies, but I often visit a site that places an unwanted cookie plus some data. I can delete the cookies but the data keeps popping up even after I delete the cookie! Now, I only access that site via a private window and the cookie and data are expunged when I close the window.

That may be an option for you.

At one time I paid close attention to cookies, but I realized it was accomplishing nothing other than making me more neurotic, so I set my Cookie timer to clear all but favorite and white listed cookies every minute, and I"ve never looked back.

I'm sure it's slowed down my browsing now and again if not more often, but the only noticeable difference I've run across is having lost a few shopping carts, which is easily overcome by hot keying Cookie off for a while (once you realize why your shopping cart is always empty ).

I ran a test this morning by going to a banking site in the usual fashion. It’s a site at which I have never seen new cookies before yesterday.

After I logged in, a new cookie popped up as soon as I started moving around the site…in fact, a cookie that wasn’t one of the seventeen new ones from yesterday. I logged out, closed Safari, and my Cookie software got rid of the new one.

I re-opened Safari and implemented the “New Private Window” function. Then I went to the same banking site and proceeded to conduct my business without a single cookie showing up. Great.

I always have the Cookie window open on the desktop so I just click “Remove Non-Favorites” whenever an unwanted cookie shows up…similar to what you’re doing but without the automaticity. So, I'll keep doing that for the sites that are less critical than banking, investing or health, et cetera.

You're obviously able to focus better than I can.

I was constantly Googling cookies to find out what and why, and aside from being a major distraction, what I "learned" was depressing...if I could even understand it.

Cookie's timer enables me to rid myself of them without getting involved with what and why.

My wife might argue that point. She’s always saying “You never listen to me.” ….or something like that.
