I upgraded to El Cap about a week ago and have found a possible mail bug and would like to see if anyone else experiences the same issue so I'll know if it just my issue or affects others.

I use Apple Mail with a POP3 account. If you right click on an email account in the IN BOX, you should get a drop down menu with the last item being 'Get Account Info'. If you choose that item a window should open that has a tab called 'Messages on Server'. When I do this, the first email in the list shows a blank 'sender', 'subject', & 'size'. The 'date' shows the correct date but everything else is blank.

This issue is only for the first email in the list. Can anyone else confirm this issue? I use this feature a lot and would like to get it fixed.

I don't use POP3 with Mail, but perhaps this first blank e-mail is a "header" e-mail (like on a spreadsheet). It only shows the order of the information that will be displayed in the following e-mails.

That is not the case Ira. If there are several emails on the server and you click on the date received column to change from ascending to descending order, the email shows up with the 'sender', 'subject', and 'size'. It's not just a place holder space.

I was not aware of the issue you have experienced with POP3.

However, for other reasons, I switched to an IMAP account and have no problems retrieving all information using the "drop down" menu - including full details in the first line.

The drop down menu 'Get Account Info' is different for IMAP than the one for POP3. I have no problem with 'Get Account Info' for IMAP accounts only the POP3 account does not show the first email correctly.

The latest release of 10.11.1 "claims" that something has been tweaked which affects Apple MAIL . . .

". . . fixes an issue where outgoing server information may be missing from Mail."

Not sure if the trouble you are having would be related to this "fix" or not.

:0)

P.S. 10.11.1 takes about 20 minutes to download with another 20 minutes to install (over) 10.11.0 - and a couple of restarts. So you may wish to see if others have some useful information about El Cap AND Mail in case the latest 40-minute update does not fix your issue. Wouldn't want to get your hopes up!

I updated to 10.11.1 yesterday with hopes that would fix this mail bug but alas it did not. BTW, it only took a few minutes to download the update and maybe 15 minutes to install for me.

FWIW:

I used TIME CAPSULE / WI-FI to download and install from the App Store.

Do NOT use POP3 with El Capitan ...Look at the first and lasts posts at this Thread.

If you are having problems with a POP3 account in El Capitan you might consider and alternative email client to Mail, Airmail 2.6. Lightweight, fast, and plays nice with Yosemite and El Capitan. It also works on iOS devices.

As bazaar as it might seem, I'm using POP3 for mail with my desktop and iPad specifically because I don't want everything the same between the 2 devices.

Other than the bug mentioned, I'm having zero problems using POP3 with El Capitan.

As a workaround, I've purchased Mailbox Manager which is working out well.

I've always used command-I to call up that pane...never realized that control-click does it too, and I was pretty miffed when I found that command-I no longer worked in Yosemite.
