OS 10.6.8 Today I tried to open my home page and Safari can't find the server.
Emptied the cache and reset Safari to no avail. I open preferences everything seems okay. I reported a bug to apple. Firefox works okay. Any ideas?

Can you post a link? Let's see if anyone can duplicate the issue.

Well at least the "Safari can't find the server" no longer appears but the progress bar in the home folder just stops after progressing across http://www.google/ and then the page remains empty. That bug to apple, do they actually do anything? I'm hoping this will resolve it's self. Thanks jon. jaybass

Your link is incomplete; it requires a domain name such as .com following the www.google .

Plus the fact that all things Google (unless you've disabled it) now require a 'secure' setting, so your URL should look like https://www.google.com .

Apple does, indeed, pay attention to bug reports, but I'm afraid that yours will most assuredly be ignored, because it deals with a 2 year old Safari 5.x, when the current version is 8.x.

I just added .com and all is well...I am going senile for sure. Thank you for that.

Actually Apples developers are focused on Safari 9 at the moment and are unlikely to offer anything but security patches for Sarari 8. Nothing earth shaking in Safari 9, but it does solve some of the initial page loading slowdowns prevalent in Safari 8 along with relatively minor enhancements to the UI.
