I've just run across the oddest thing... If I launch TurboTax Deluxe 2010 and immediately look at my Safari cookies I can watch as the cookies I've deleted during my current Safari session reappear after a few seconds, and it's 100% reproducible.

This only happens if both TT and Safari are in front at the same time.

Can anybody hazard a guess as to what's going on?

How can both TurboTax and Safari be in front at the same time?

Clarification... By in front I meant not hidden.

Sorry.

Update: It occurred to me that Safari Cookies might be involved, but the behavior persists after SC is uninstalled.

Have you tried this while logged into a test account?

They're probably cached somewhere. The problem lies in "during my current Safari session". To truly delete the cookies, Safari must be quit [quitted?] and then relaunched. Even though it's slightly flawed and out of date, i've had good luck with Cocoa Cookies... but again, i quit Safari before running it.

I had no doubt that the anomalous behavior would follow me, Jon, but, since you asked, I was obligated to report back...

I was correct in my assumption, but many thanks, anyhow, for asking, because I learned something along the way...that the anomalous behavior occurs only if I've allowed TurboTax to call home looking for updates; if I hit deny when Little Snitch asks for permission the deleted cookies don't reappear.

[shrug]Got me beat. confused [/shrug]

Either or both, but it can't be acquitted.

I'm running Safari Cookies (which I'd prefer sans SIMBL, but which includes functionality that can't be duplicated as an extension),which has worked admirably for me; I'm not familiar with Cocoa Cookies, but I very much like the fact that SC allows me to control my cookies, Flash cookies, and databases from the same pane.

I've run into the resurrected cookies issue infrequently, very infrequently, in the past, but I never before had the least bit of an idea of what had happened, and now that I'm aware of this TurboTax connection and what to expect I'll just deal with it as it occurs (which will be "wait 'til next year" after I finish a coupl'a returns).

Here's an interesting ware i just learned about 5 minutes ago:

http://www.ghostery.com/

Thanks for the link.

I d/l'ed Ghostery, and the first thing I noticed is that it's blocking Google Analytics, which Incognito is supposed to be blocking already. Hmmm...

I'd like to read some of Ghostery's press, but none of it is linked, and Google comes up empty.

I haven't enabled GhostRank yet, and I'm not giving them any data until I know a bit more.

I guess it's nice to see that Ghostery hasn't found any "bugs" on the FTM website.

More... Ghostery also says it's blocking Google Adsense, which Incognito is also supposed to be blocking.

At any rate, even if Ghostery isn't blocking what it says it's blocking, at least it's telling me what's there.

it's hard to say who gets their hands on it first, depends on who splices in where. One of them has to be getting ahold of things before the other, so it's not surprising that a new tool is finding things that an existing tool was handling (and is now not getting a shot at)

Thanks; I more or less guessed that it worked that way.

I've since trashed Incognito in favor of Ghostery; what the former does that the latter doesn't isn't particularly important to me.
