I am about to buy a magic mouse to use with our iMac (if the local store has one). Most of the reviews are very positive, but slow tracking seems to be a major problem. I really do not like a slow mouse; really exasperating! I read that an existing program, "MouseZoom" can be used to speed up the mouse tracking. Could anyone tell me if they have used MouseZoom, how hard it is to set up, quirks, etc.. We are using an iMac/Snow Leopard. Thanks, Dave
I don't know about Mouse Zoom but
this MacFixit article has a remedy for slow tracking by using Terminal.
For those who are allergic to the command line as suggested in Jon's reference,
MacPilot has a Mouse Speed Control function under System that will set the speed options for you.
Sir: Thank you for the MacPilot suggestion. I never saw it said that way, but I think I am "allergic to Command Line instructions". I think I could easily make an error in Terminal that could have dire consequences! But, when I went to the list of features in MacPilot, I could not find a mouse speed item in the services list. Does not seem to be such an item anywhere. What am I doing wrong? Dave
Sorry, a typing mistake, I meant the Systems list, not services. Dave
The Macworld article
Bugs & Fixes: Magic Mouse loses its way states that the problem affects a subset of Magic Mice, and that so far no fix other than replacement (recommended!) appears to work consistently. Of course, this assumes that the replacement mouse isn't similarly afflicted.
MacPilot has had flurry of releases lately. I am using MacPilot 3.4.6 which apparently was released about 3:30 PM CST today (November 9, 2009) and under the General Icon > System there is an item labeled "Mouse Speed Multiplier". It is easy to overlook an item in the extensive list of parameters. I found it the first time by selecting "System" in the applications list and then using the search function with "mouse" as the argument.

Magic Mouse.
I will check out the link you supplied; thanks a lot. However, I installed the MouseZoom pref.pane yesterday and now have a mouse that is "Magic" and tracks at the same rate as the old mouse. The little app seems to work just fine with the new mouse and OS 10.6.2 Dave
Just as an FYI, I finally received and installed my Magic Mouse and it was so fast that it was almost impossible to use. Uninstalling Alessandro Levi Montalcini's USB Overdrive slow things down to a usable range as well as activating the Magic Mouse gestures.
I can hardly wait to see what Alessandro will do with the next release of USB Overdrive with Magic Mouse support.
An additional comment: Pairing the MM was the easiest and slickest I have ever encountered.
