It's formatted DOS but each time I tried it to print photos at a kiosk the stick never showed up. Assumed that XP was so old it couldn't recognize that size flash drive. Then XP was discontinued and the kiosks were always down because there was no support. So they must be using something different now but the stick still does not show up. So I was finally thinking, partition the drive. Can anyone save me several trips to the store by telling me whether that would work and if it will, what is the largest size partition? (I only want to carry one flash drive around with me.)
make sure it's not formatted FAT32. As the name suggests, that format only supports 32GB. Anything beyond that is probably formatted by some other means. I don't know of any format offhand that is read/write on both mac and windows. (why macs can't write natively to NTFS after all these years, astounds me)
It gives me the choice of formatting MS-DOS (FAT) or ExFat.
well either my information is out of date, I'm remembering wrong, or wikipedia has lost its mind

The article referenced above says exFAT is specifically for flash drives and the like.

True, but not all devices can read the ExFAT format and are therefore limited to 32GB flash drives.
Ok, so let me try partitioning it in half and formatting one side exFAT and one side DOS.
