imac OS 10.5.8 itunes 9.0.2
I tried to burn an audio CD and I needed to change the positions of some the tunes.
I tried to drag an itune to where I wanted it but it doesn't move. In the past I've never had this problem.
In the help menu it says to do what I tried to do.
Anyone have a suggestion?

Clarification, please: are you trying to drag/rearrange in the Playlist?

I just tried it in one of my Playlists and it works. I can position the songs in any order within he Playlist and then burn them in that order.

I put them in toast (7) and then try to adjust them.
That is what I've been able to do before.

Your initial post indicates you are attempting to re-order tunes tunes in iTunes and your second post says you put them in Toast 7. Which is it? confused

Perhaps I didn't word my initial posting quite right.
When I say I tried to drag them, I meant moving them up or down whilst in toast. Sorry about that.

If a list in iTunes is sorted by Name, or Time, or Artist, or Year, etc., etc., etc. -- then clearly dragging won't work. The order in those cases is determined by the fixed sort.

You need to click the leftmost column (above where the numbers are) to enable manual sorting. [note: as with the others, that manual sort can be reversed by clicking that column heading again. note 2: there are two arrows there these days... the first one (pointing either left or right) pops the album artwork out and in, while the second arrow (pointing up or down) is the one you're interested in activating.]

Here's a similar thread, including a graphical aid: How do you manually sort the songs in iTunes' playlist?

Might be a plist issue... Try moving /Users/Your short name/Library/Preferences/com.roxio.Toast.plist to your desktop, then restart your Mac; Toast will create a new file as needed.

If the problem is resolved, trash the original file and reset any associated preferences.

If not, restore the original file to from whence it came by overwriting the new one.

I tried what you suggested but I still cannot rearrange the itunes in toast.

I phoned Roxio and they 'took over' my computer and supposedly
fixed it by adding an ini attachment (whatever that is) but when I checked, it still wasn't working.

I will have to wait until later today to phone them because of the time difference.

When I had tiger, it was okay. I've only had leopard 6 months.
Don't know if that is significant
Does anyone else use toast 7 with leopard?

I will post whatever happens.

I trashed that plist file but it didn't solve the problem.
I then returned that file back from whence it came.

Toast?!?!?!?
nevermind.

[meanwhile, just burn with iTunes.]

I just added an album from my iTunes Music file to a Toast 6 window (in Leopard) and was unable to rearrange the songs with drag and drop.

Why don't you just go with Hal's advice, i.e. create a new playlist in iTunes, drag in your songs in the order you prefer, and burn with iTunes?

Re itunes.
I did try what you suggested but I was limited to burning 99 itunes. Since then, I told to click on 'burn disc' and change the format to MP3s. I was then able to burn any amount up to 700mb

Regarding toast, selecting audio CD, or enhanced CD, I could rearrange itunes. If the MP3 format was selected, rearranging itunes does not work. It seems that in the latter format, there are no numbers beside the itunes as opposed to the other formats.
This for a reason unknown to me, allows rearranging.
This took a technician over 2 hours to figure out!
However, problem solved.
Thanks.

As you can from my reply to Hal, All that was needed was change the format to MP3 when burning using itunes.

I imagine there are lesser mortals like myself who are not aware of the info I received.

Thanks for your input.

I have Toast Titanium V6.1.1, running Snow Leopard V10.6.2. If it's helpful to this thread I just did a quick test.

I opened Toast, then opened iTunes. I dragged an album (Playlist) from iTunes to the Toast window and it loaded the songs almost immediately.

In Toast only the MP3 mode would not allow changing the order of the tunes. I was able to change with great facility in Audio CD, Enhanced Audio, and Mixed Mode.

so does OS 9 for a surprising number of people.

I still tell them they need to upgrade. wink

So, let's see. It'll cost me $80 to get from V6 to V10 and, although I suppose V10 does some stuff V6 doesn't, I don't need those functions so I will have paid $80 to do the same things I do now - dub the odd CD so I have a copy for the car (less of an issue since my kids gave me an iPod) or burn a mix CD (that iTunes will do for me). Perhaps V10 works a bit faster but I'm not in a hurry and a few seconds here or there won't cause me to lose sleep.

I think my 80 bucks would be better spent on something I actually need.

Toast 6 is not even a native intel application for your hardware. You need at least Toast 8 for that, so that'd be one reason to upgrade.

I'd also bet that rosetta is dropped for 10.7, which oddly enough was hinted at by someone at apple I just was talking with today. (seems a bit of a rush?)
