OS 10.12.6

I downloaded some episodes and put them on a thumb drive which had existing videos on it, but when I tried to play the new ones,, they didn't even show on the thumb drive..

They play on my computer ok...quicktime. I guess they require a different player.

I am presently converting them to VLCs but the conversion time is well over 3 hours.
I am using iskysoft video converter ultimate which normally does a good job.

Why so long? Is there a quicker way?

What device are the videos not playing on if they play okay on your computer? What format are the video's in originally?

They would not play on a Sony blue-ray player. That is a new first.

I just tried to download them again and there are serveral formats to pick from but I

think it could be: 720-265-HEVC-RMTeam.

Thanks for your response.

Endeavour S06E01 HDTV x264-MTB [eztv]

This the one I used. They became MOVs

I am not particularly knowledgeable in this area but I do know that a common issue with videos is the .MOV format is a container that incorporates a variety of different codecs. It may be your BlueRay player simply does not recognize the .MOV format or it may not have the proper codec for the files you downloaded. (NOTE: because the .MOV format is an Apple proprietary format, the .MP4 format is generally more universally compatible.)

As to how long it is taking (hopefully by now that is "took") video image rendering is notorious for eating CPU cycles. You have a high resolution file with a lot of data and rendering it from one codec and format to another takes a huge number of CPU cycles. Had you looked at Activity Monitor during that process I suspect you would have found the processor(s) in your CPU were pretty well maxed out and quite likely there would have been a lot of swap file activity going on as well.

Joe,

When I first downloaded, there were 4 files and after the download, the one I mentioned, Endeavour S06E01 HDTV x264-MTB [eztv] would not play even as an AVI.

I had to download it again. And maybe because as you say, my CPU was pretty well maxed out, that was the reason?? However, alls well that ends well.
