OS 10.5.8 audacity 1.3.9

Can anyone tell me how to have my recording playback at normal speed?

Running 1.2.5 here on 10.5.8, I don't have speed problems. It plays back at the speed it recorded.

select all
Effects->Change Tempo

distorts quite a bit when you slow it by 50% in my test. I don't usually use that particular bell/whistle.

Are you importing over a regular analog like a mic, using digital input like firewire, or are you just opening existing sound files?

I am recording from a USB turntable without any problem.

I have just tried using all the permutations of speed and tempo

but I cannot get it to playback at the recorded speed.

I'm wondering if this beta version is the promblem.

My son downloaded this version yesterday and opened an existing file and had the same problem.

I think I will trash this and download 1.2.5 and see if that is okay.

you could try using GarageBand and see if you have the same trouble.

I trashed 1.3.9 and downloaded 1.2.5 and presto! it recorded and played back like it should. All I have to do now is figure out how edit it!

Roger,
I have never used garageband so I would be lost

there too.

sounds like you figured it out, so no need to test Garageband in this instance. but play around with GB sometime, it's fun, and a very useful tool!
