If so, how?

I just exhale on them and wipe with a soft cloth.

It's important to wipe radially, not circularly.

No, the dishwasher is fine, but just take 'em out before the spin cycle starts. tongue

It's probably a bad idea to use a dishwasher that has a spin cycle. grin

There's a guy on You Tube who uses car wax.

What brand of car wax? Turtle Wax? Meguiar's?

Here it is

That video is almost 4 years old, and thus there could be something better than the NuFinish Car Wax. For our two automobiles, I use Meguiar's car wax, and it is superior to most other ones, and especially superior to either Turtle Wax or NuFinish.

Actually, ryck, I just repeated what I've read and heard for years, including here at FTM.

I searched, and almost every hit comes up with the same "radially" (inside to outside) answer, although I did find one website that says "no difference".

If there's an authoritative answer, I didn't find it.

I read that you're less likely to scratch the CD if you rub outward from the center rather than in a circle.

I used to use Meguillar's too on my car. Then I stopped giving a damn about what it looks like. So long as it runs and the heat & AC work.

That's the general wisdom, but I haven't found an authoritative document on the subject.

Edit: And as far as what to use, I'll go with the most benign product available (Is my exhalation benign?) unless it doesn't work.

Not me! I want my cars to look good, as I have pride in ownership. Plus, it's good exercise. But, to each his/her own. I do give a damn about it (along with other things).

The difference between circular and radial scratches is discussed in Circular Scratches on CDs and DVDs. Both wipe directions may cause scratches, but the radial ones tend to be easier on the error correction system of the player, hence the advice to wipe discs radially instead of circularly.
