Since installing Snow Leopard when I attempt to burn a label the result is solid black with no gray shading or variegation of any kind. I have reinstalled the LightScribe Labeler 1.5 software, and tried several different templates with no change in the output. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Somewhat simplistic on my part, but does Lightscribe claim its software is Snow Leopard compatible?

MacRumors thread says LSL isn't SL compatible. Apparently the latest version of Disc Cover will work, though (the RE version comes bundled with Toast, if you have that).

Thanks Doni, I missed that article and LaCie is saying nothing at all about Snow Leopard compatibility one way or the other. I tried Disc Cover, but for some reason it insists I have to enter my Toast registration and I am launching it from within Toast. Mutter Mumble. I may be forced to upgrade to Toast 10.

Interestingly, Disc Cover's website says the RE version with Toast 9 isn't SL compatible, only the RE version with v.10. Maybe what you're seeing is a symptom of that? Unfortunately I don't have a burner on my netbook and haven't upgraded the wife's Macbook yet (and @ work I have an old G5) so I can't try troubleshooting further myself.

You got it Doni. Last night I gave in and upgraded to Toast 10. Toast worked fine but not Disc Cover RE. Only after I updated to Toast 10.002 did Disc Cover RE work as it should. I probably could have gotten off cheaper buying Disc Cover Standard, but as I refuse to use stick on labels all the clip art would be a waste so I elected the Toast Upgrade.

I like lightscribe because there is no risk of ink bleeding though the cover layers, no stick on label to get unbalanced or jam in a slot loading drive, and I don't have a printer that will print on optical media. Besides that my LaCie Lightscribe drive is faster than the internal drive in my iMac Core 2 Duo.

I buy the white printables and use a sharpie also. The white is so much easier to write on than a generic CD top label, easier to read, and the label is a lot thicker to protect the data beneath

I just discovered that I had Disk Cover 2 RE bundled with Toast 10. I'm sure that it will take a lot of time before Lightscribe Labeler is updated (if ever), so I was happy to see that there is an update to Disc Cover 2 RE that is SL compatible, version 2.3.2. There is also new host software for the drive, lightscribe.pkg 1.18.8.1 (I got a link to it from another forum, but don't recall which one it was).

Lacie has in fact fixed the Snow Leopard compatability problem for its Lightcribe software. You can download the latest update at the following location:

I have a macbook pro running Snow Leopard. I bought the Lacie Drive and can't get it to work with the original software... I have delete all the software - or so I thought... I have enmail lacie support and done updates but that didn't work either. Suggestions on what I can do to get a program that works for the lacie drive and SL? What exact steps did everyone else do to get it to work?
