OS 10.14.6

I had a problem with my mail which now works ok. Before the problem, I had (2) email addresses at the top of the sidebar and upon clicking, the received emails appeared. Both of those have disappeared and I managed to put them back under
"on my mac" These I dragged to the top of the sidebar but upon clicking either one, doesn't show any emails. How can I recover the original (2) addresses at the top of the sidebar which will reveal all received emails?
Trouble is, I don't know how to recover those (2) email addresses. Can anyone help me?

This just a guess, but if you hover your cursor over "Favorites" at the top of the sidebar you should see an up/down arrow which, if you click on it, may correct your problem.
Thanks artie but that didn't work. I may end up having to call apple...we shall see.

When an address in Apple Mail is at the top of the sidebar it means that account is online, either as an IMAP or POP account (don't worry about the terms, they just mean the mail starts on some provider's servers). Open Preferences in Mail and click on Accounts. Do your two missing accounts show up in the listing with either IMAP or POP underneath? If not, click the "+" sign at the bottom of the list and add them back in. If they do show up as such, make sure the "Enable this account" check box is checked. Report back, please.
Ira,
I have done what you said and I added my icloud address but it shows offline. I already had the other one there and it shows online but neither of them appear at the top of the sidebar.

They are both enabled. I thought about deleting and reinstalling them but I'm afraid of losing my existing emails.

jayass
As long as your online accounts are IMAP (not POP), deleting and reinstalling should not be a problem. I know it can be scary to contemplate doing that, but whenever I have done it, no existing emails have been lost.
Ira,
My emails are IMAP. I'll give it a whirl when I come back from Niagara falls on Friday...just a couple of days with my son.

I will let you know how it goes

I am not sure I grasp exactly what your problem is but, If the top of your sidebar looks like this (Note the indicated > icon), then cliick on the > and see if something like this doesn't happen.

OMG joemikeb, I sure hope you spotted the simple and obvious solution to jaybass' problem. I can't stop smiling thinking that is really all that it is. smile
shocked laugh
Joe,
I did have to delete and reinstall to solve the problem it was then after that, that I didn't think to click the >icon to reveal the 2 email addresses.

I don't feel so stupid when even Ira didn't twig it.

Thank you.

jaybass
Not to jump on you in particular, but just using this as an example of why posters should always include screenshots when posting visual issues.
As the "twig-er" in this issue, I whole-heartedly concur. It helps resolve issues if we can see what you see. wink
Ira & all, Regarding including a screenshot, I shall have to bear that in mind next time.

jaybass
It is true that a screenshot can be worth 1,000 words.

For some time I had been attempting to create a script to...
  1. take a screenshot
  2. annotate the image,
  3. upload it to Imgur,
  4. capture the URL for the posted image

...when I discovered QuickImage Uploader, that does all of that plus retains a list of all the uploaded images and can remove them from Imgur on demand. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

DISCLAIMER: I have no relationship, pecuniary or otherwise, with QuickImage Uploader or its developer, Hiroki Ikeuchi other than that of a satisfied user.
