Google maps on the iPhone I cannot find the settings anymore where you set not to go on the toll roads; as I looked everywhere-- does anyone know -- vanished? or where do you find this now thanks!

I don't use Google maps since Apple maps have improved so much but does this help? (I found it using DuckDuckGo grin )

Joe yes helps -- have you spent a few years on Google maps and can can compare quality?
Posted By: joemikeb Re: Google Maps pref/ settings - 03/22/22 09:20 PM
Yes, I have used Google Maps in the past, but when you ask me to compare quality, Apple Maps have gone from pretty miserable to a reliable accurate competitor. Apple bought out, or contracted with, one of their top competitors and has spent $ millions ($Billions?) in improvements to create credible competitor for Google Maps. To the point Google has been accused of dumbing down their product rather than spending more money to compete. As I have not been a continuous Google Maps user, I am unable to comment knowledgeably.

GENERAL OBSERVATIONS:
  • In general you will prefer the app you have used the most and have the most familiarity with
  • In general the two apps are competitive feature-by-feature
  • Apple's "Look around" view is not as complete as Google's, but it is expanding rapidly
  • I have come to prefer Apple Map's planning feature for mid-range, multi-stop, future.
  • Apple Maps is integrated into multiple third party trip planning apps such as InRoute and RoadTripPlanner I rely on for multi-day trip planning.
  • Apple Maps have the advantage of being integrated seamlessly with numerous other apps and/or functions in macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Siri, & Apple watch thus reducing the operator's distraction from the navigation task at hand and making Apple Maps safer to use while driving.

PERSONAL PREFERENCES:
  • I have and use several apps for on-screen and verbal routing guidance and Apple Maps' instructions are hands down the clearest and easiest to follow accurately of the bunch. (fewer missed turns, more certainty in directions) <Integration with my Apple Watch is a big bonus in this>
  • Of the several different apps, Apple has, by far, the fastest response to route changes, the best and fastest re-routing due to traffic conditions, the best integration with CarPlay, and my favorite "voice" -- Irish female.
  • The only failure to arrive at my desired destination on time using recent versions of Apple Maps has been due to my failure to enter the correct address.

MAPS WISH LIST:
  • Expanded "Look Around"
  • integrated EV Charging Station locations
  • Add multi-stop with EV charging station preferences to route planning
  • Add multi-day EV trip planning features.

Great post Joe, so used to Google, but do use Maps when address is in contacts and forced to.

That said, maybe I'll try to switch for some of the reasons --I don't use hardly any those features --but just contcts one alone and maybe a few other things, podcast by apple --I haven't heard the Irish voice where do you set that, and where do you set no toll roads maybe already have that done but I can't remember
Voice uses Siri’s accenot: Settings > Siri & Search > Siri Voice. The offerings in iOS 15.4 include; 4 American Accents, 2 Australian, 2 British, 2 Asian Indian, 2 Irish, and 2 South African.

Map options in iOS/iPadOS includes under Settings > Maps > Driving >
  • Avoid: toll roads/highways
  • Show: Compass/Speed Limit
  • Spoken Directions: PausePodczsts/wake device/directions on Rdioglish,
  • Distances: Miles/KIlometers
  • Climate: Air Qualityu Index, weather Conditions
  • Contribute to Maps: Ratings & Photos, Whow rankings photos, and suggestions
  • Extensions: Rkde zbooking/Restaurant bjoking
  • your c.4ar; Show parked location (works like a charm)
  • Issue reporting; follow up by email?

MacOS offers more planning options such as future departure and arrival times and tha too has proven to be very accurate, here in the metroplex.

Joe, on 15.3. 1; is that why I cannot find Siri, and then these accents, can't find at all.

BTW maps, I dont see mph limit listed anymore (used to) even though I checked that. and climate, weather, never seen that, even though checked.

I think it may be because joemikeb is using dictation and either doesn't or is currently unable to proof read. confused

Actually, I was higher than a kite on pain killers following a bunionectomy and it was the best I could do at the time.
My first thought was dictation, but then I realized that the mistakes were way beyond dictation's ability to err.

I can't imagine anything other than that you were trying to type.

I hope the drugs have accomplished their purpose.

I hope well Joe! I did not notice errors at all, until pointed out, and even then, not so much... so ... not sure that is good sign on my end. All ok..
