I didn't know I could do things like that in preview! How do I open preview in a blank screen and then screen shot in preview? I can only seem to open preview if I have a pdf or something already downloaded to it.
Preview provides a full range of annotation tools for pdf, jpg, heif, and most other file formats
where Preview is the default application. Simply open the file in Preview and press ⇧⌘A to open the annotation tool bar. If your favorite file format is not supported, new ones are added from time to time along with new and/or improved annotation tools. I find it a valuable tool which has replaced at least two other graphics applications I used previously for the purpose.
iCloud shows two folders. One says documents and is empty. The other says desktop and is full of stuff I keep in a desktop folder, but I never checked iCloud, so I am wondering why it is there. I do have an Apple ID and use it off and on.
You use your Apple ID far more often than you realize, but that is mostly going on in the background of MacOS, iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, TVOS,
etc. Anytime you;
- use your Mac to receive a telephone call,
- make or receive a FaceTime call on your Mac or iPhone,
- send or receive an iMessage, SMS, or MMS on your Mac
- send an iMessage, or make a telephone call on your iPhone using the internet rather than a cellular connection
- use FaceTime on your Mac to locate your iPhone
...it is routed by an Apple sever using your Apple ID. Disabling the Apple ID would disable FaceTime and a raft of other functions including Siri.
I can conjure several possibilities for the files in the Desktop folder on iCloud, but without access to your Mac, your iPhone, and your Apple ID and Password, not to mention your history of use of both devices anything I suggest would be a WAG at best. (Wild ... Guess. I leave the interpretation of A up to you 😜.) Most applications on the iPhone and iPad store their files on your iCloud Drive in folders named for each application, which is how iOS and iPadOS get by without a Finder app.
The Apple ID and iCloud are integral to Apple hardware and software.
