First time ever: this morning in mail a toll fee $6, did not even notice I was on a till road.
Anyway to tell Google Maps navigation to avoid those?
In Apple Maps app (yeah, not Google), when you are presented with route options, it will indicate "this route involves tolls". Are you missing this notification with Google maps?
More directly, it seems what you want to do can be done if you are using the Google Map app (as opposed to going to Google maps via a browser). Here is how:
•Open the Google Maps app maps.
•Search for your destination or touch it on the map.
•In the bottom right, touch the blue circle. It’ll show a car, bus, bike, or person walking.
•From the top, touch the car button .
•Touch Options.
•Touch Avoid tolls.
Excellent Ira, is there a global setting for this? Hate to have to do it everytime!
If you want a configurable GPS navigation APP, I was looking for a navigaion app to use with my camper and came across CoPilot (available on the app store) or directly from the developer. The most configurable navigtion app I have found including avoiding tolls, propane restricted tunnels, vehicle height restrictions, custom speed settings for diffent vehicle types and average speed estimates for different road types, multi-point routing, traffic, time to destination, time to leave to arrive by set time. it runs on OS X and iOS. There is a free version that is limited to 3 destination points and does not support traffic information. Maps are fully downloaded so it will work without a data connection.
Thanks Joe, never heard of it. I have Waze which is well known, but I seem to prefer Google. Do you like Google maps? But Google does not have global settings and this app does? It seems odd you could not set, no tolls roads, as a permanent preference.

I had never heard of it either until I saw a post on the Airstream Interstate forums about it. The big feature for RV drivers is the height restriction. When you are driving a 9 to 10 foot tall vehicle that becomes an issue — particularly in the Northeastern part of the country.
But Joe, you would not give up the quality of Google maps for one feature in you were in my shoes? Ability to set no toll roads to global... It does that, Google does not? Odd Google does not have global setting?
Were I in your driving shoes — maybe not. But then again…
ok Joe. Thanks! Will check it out.

The info I posted above was for a setting in the application, so it should "stick" from map to map.
Thanks Ira, are you sure, I would guess it expires after that one drive...
Instead of guessing, why don't you just program in a few successive drives - but without going anywhere - and see what happens?
I imagine that you'll see some sort of icon, either persistent or not, after you make the move Ira has suggested.
And?
10 days have passed, and others are still waiting to learn something.
Don't use nagivation that much Artie, so it would take a while to see it the option actually sticks..
I'd think you could find out just by sitting at your desk and programming a couple of trips in succession without actually going anywhere.
If you program a trip, select "No toll roads", and then cancel the trip, the icon will either be there or not when you program the next trip.
Please let us know.
