10.5 I had the computer to NEVER SLEEP. Which is the way I like it during the work day.
And then I would sleep it at night.

With 10.6, though, it would not sleep at night set to Never.

So I have it set now to 3hours and it sleeps at night.

But now it also goes to sleep, which I don't want, if I leave during the day for over 3 hours. any solution?
Don't have 10.6 here, but under 10.5 the Energy Saver System Preference has a "Schedule..." button at the lower right where you can set a time that the computer Sleeps everyday and then you can leave the regular setting set to Never.

Kevin,
I prefer sleeping the computer when I decide to, but unless someone has a better solution, I may go with that. I wonder if anyone knows why 10.6 has this issue that I did not have in 10.5
I have no personal experience with ibeezz, but this shareware application ($15.00) may be a solution-adanced sleep settings and 3.5 stars at MacUpdate. Free 30 day trial.

What seems nice to me, is that it will wake your machine at X time so that backups, etc. can be run, and then put it back to sleep when the BU is completed.

And if you do get iIbeezz, please post your review. I may even get it. cool
By scheduling it you are telling it when you decide to, but if you want to manually trigger sleep at anytime, just press Command-Option-Eject.

To just sleep the display, Control-Shift-Eject.

I use Synk Professional myself for backups and it wakes the computer itself without the need for another software to do it. The computer then goes back to sleep at my regular schedule (15 minutes) after the backups are complete or I can set a completion action to Sleep the computer again if I was manually sleeping the computer only. You might want to check your backup software to see if it has a similar feature.

I don't know how a software would know the backups are complete. Sometimes the backup take 10 min, sometimes they take 2 hours.

anyway, energy saver is fine -- except does anyone know why in 10.5 set to Never you could sleep at night, but with 10.6 set to Never you cannot sleep?

Kevin's original solution is fine except I wonder what would happen if I woke the computer after the 11pm schedule to sleep/ sliders set to never.
I would then have to do a manual sleep. With Snow Leopard I may have to manually redo the sliders -- big hassle.

The software backing up knows and then triggers the sleep.

10.5 doesn't work as you describe unless you use the Schedule function I mentioned or used 3rd party software.

It would then stay awake. Sounds like you should just use the key command I mentioned to Sleep since that'll do it when you want it to do it no matter when.

You mean redo the slider each time you wake so it can sleep later. That's just silly. Just use the key sequence.

I use super duper software. It would know to sleep the computer after a backup?

Yes.

Open SD! Click on Options. In the General Tab, under "On Successful Completion" is a drop down menu. From that, select "Sleep Computer".

The Options button is in the SuperDuper window. Maybe you were looking in one of the menus?

Don't see options. only see:
show log, copy now, delete, and edit.

Found it, so annoying, it not on scheduled copies window with my 4 schedules. I think you need to recreate them from scrath then no?

If nobody else has an answer, contact tech support from the developer. Dave Nanian is very responsive.

AFAIK, it is not necessary to recreate your SD schedules. Just make the change to "Sleep Computer" upon successful completion of backup.

Or, if it is preferable to you, recreating new schedules is easily done.

Either way will work.
