OS 11.3 Beta 4 is now available for testing by developers (and possibly others):

Seems like V11.3 of Big Sur is getting real close.

With the exception of the initial release of a new macOS, iOS, iPadOS, WatchOS, or TVOS (ie macOS 12.0) public beta testers will get access to each beta version within 24 to 48 hours of the release to developers. And generally all of the various Apple OSs will have a beta release within the same 24 to 48 hour window. So today I installed macOS 11.3 beta 4, iOS 14.5 beta 4, iPadOS beta 4, WatchOS 7.4 beta 4, but I haven't gotten around to TVOS 14.5 beta 4 yet (maybe this evening).

Anything "earth shattering" in OS 11.3 beta 4?

Yes, Control Center continually crashes at the rate of every 20 to 30 seconds. 😱

I heard there were issues with Rosetta and M1-based Macs (also heard the same thing with Beta 3). Does not affect me, but if true, not good. Here is a quote from one of the libks for Beta 4:

"Code in ‌macOS Big Sur‌ 11.3 suggests that Rosetta could be removed from some ‌M1‌ Macs in some select regions after the software is released. There's a mention that "Rosetta is no longer available in this region. Applications requiring Rosetta will no longer run," but no additional information is available at this time."

The Apple Rumor mill feeds on snippets from comments and documentation embedded in the code. Some of those refer to developmental technologies or branches that may never see the light of day, some of those are from the early macOS 12, 13, 14, even 15 development that is already ongoing, some from other offshoots from the underlying kernel, and some may really a harbinger of things to come. Given Apple's past history of migrating from one processor to another, I wouldn't worry about the disappearance of Rosetta any time soon. Certainly not before the entire Mac product line has been moved to Apple silicon, and that is still a year or so away. After that, it is certain to happen sooner rather than later. Not that rosetta will be removed from existing versions of macOS, just that it won't be included in future versions.

This morning I woke to find macOS 11.3 beta 5, iOS and iPadOS 14.5 beta 5, watchOS 7.4 beta 5, and tvOS 14.5 beta 5 ready for download. Nothing new is mentioned in the beta 5 release notes for any of the five products but, after installing macOS 11.3 beta 5, I immediately noticed Control Center had returned to the menu bar along with several other annoying issues that had appeared in beta 4. I am a much happier camper! This may be the gold master for the next round of general releases.

I came across this article: Two unreleased iMacs referenced in macOS Big Sur 11.3 beta

For those of you who believe Apple ignores feedback see this Feedback report.

I think that could use some perspective...

Apple, quite obviously and equally reasonably, subjects "bug" reports to its own form of triage, with, in all likelihood, issues concerning betas getting first treatment, issues concerning released OSs and submitted through Feedback Assistant getting second treatment, and all other issues, i.e. those submitted through macOS Feedback, getting whatever remains of their attention span.

You're dealing with a beta, so personalized responses to your specific issues are pretty much necessary, and although issues submitted through Feedback Assistant don't necessarily, if ever, elicit personalized responses, their status can always be determined by logging in to FA.

Issues submitted through macOS Feedback, those that Rita and I (at the least) have complained about, on the other hand, most definitely do NOT get any sort of similar treatment. Indeed, I've got multiple issue that go back years, that I know I'm not alone in having reported, and that are annoyances to many users, not just me, that I've given up hope on.

That's where Apple's much vaunted tech support fails badly.
