Used to be open an app you use rarely. Quit, and go away. Now stay in the dock. Anyway to change this behavior? thanks.

Thanks Joe, is this newer behavior? I don't think I've ever gone into the system preferences for the dock before for anything.

It is a feature introduced in Catalina. Look for more in Big Sur.

Whenever I do a major upgrade (for example, from Mojave to Catalina), I make it a mission to go through every preference pane in System Preferences to see if there are any new preferences that need to be addressed. In addition, once in awhile (and this is rare), a preference may have reverted to default and not be what I wanted. For example, I had to reset my mouse tracking speed after one upgrade (I don't remember which one).

There are new settings that show appear, old settings that go away (or at least can no longer be found), and most often settings get moved to a new location and I will add that has recently been true of updates as well as upgrades. Yours is a really good idea, I just wish I were as disciplined. 😜

J, as Joe mentioned good idea. ON scale of anal, I have an excel file with Mac and photoshop keyboard shortcuts. I've often taken screenshots preferences of certain apps like photoshop - though not done in long time for some reason.... Have not done the screenshot folder of Apples system prefs, but good idea.

I have to wonder, why to engineers scramble change things.. like when go to the supermarket and they have all your stuff in new rows, new areas.. don't think about the customer... Or Citi send a forced new card with all new numbers all around - they used to just change first four numbers.. no consideration.

I found a solution that I think is better than your Excel spreadsheet called CheatSheet. Press and hold the command key (⌘) and it displays the shortcuts for the app, any app, that currently has the focus. It never goes out of date because it reads the shortcuts in the app itself when it is activated. 😎

By-the-way CitiCard and others have switched to sending entirely new numbers because with only 4 digits it takes a computer only seconds to determine your new number. CitiCard is protecting you and themselves from financial loss.

Thanks Joe, Well in past Citi would send new card (because of touchless technology), and keep 12 digits and change four. I memorize the number so this was nice.
On last round, they scrambled everything. But after a month I have it memorized now

Cheat sheet I'll take a look at.
I think gotta keep the excel too though, as lot of those shortcuts I created.
