Interesting, I'm working on folder on both laptop/ desktop. I'm making comments on the files inside, yet comments only show on desktop, not laptop, odd?

More information please:

• Where are the files physically located, on your desktop, on your laptop. iCloud, where?
• How are the files shared/synched between your laptop and desktop?
• How and where are you making the file comments?
• What OS version are you using on your desktop computer?
• what OS version are you using on your laptop computer?

Synced with icloud of course.
Comments with Command i, then written in little box.
Both lap/ desktop 10.12.6

BTW on comment subject: Always irks me you see it in finder as just one super long line. Nothing I can do about that? You have to extend finder window sometimes 3 feet to the right!

Do you perhaps mean the Comments column in List View? How else would you want it?
I usually do a ⌘-I to read or copy the Comments, so I get the soft wrap text.
(By the way, a Comment can contain a line break, but you’ll have to copy-paste that from a text edit field that behaves differently on the return/enter key, and such a special character also makes the comment disappear from List View.)
There may be Finder/File Manager alternatives that show the Comments differently, but that seems like a big step for a small thing.

The Comments exist ONLY in the volume structure on the machine they are entered on and are not transferred to iCloud or any server. iCloud files are handled in the same way as files on local drives so you will be able to see the comments on your desktop, but sadly not on the desktop. FWIW I just ran a series of simple tests to verify this.

Wow, surprised, if you change a document that will show the change across the platform, but not comments?

Now for comments, yet list view, and you agree, pita if you have lot text, it wont wrap and it's just one long line..?

Wish there was some utility that you could comment on folders/ files and a small rectangular bubble came up with the comment, like tool tip, nice?

Good idea. You might suggest that to Apple Feedback. I would like to see it in the iOS Files app as well.

FWIW I was as surprised as you about the Comments, especially since other attributes go along with the file.

Yeah comments is lame. Do you use Apple Mail? Same thing there, and I did find a app that let's you write comments on an email directly but it's about $35 and have to upgrade, but very worth it if you have emails and clients and you want to make note of them.

Amazing Apple, think of so much, but not important little thing of making notes and comments on files, folders, emails.

I use Airmail, it is very flexible and highly configurable, but it does not support comments.
