OS 10.6.8

I have 3 external HDs and have just erased one in order to install El Capitan.

Apple tell me that the canadian store is not available. Is there any other way I can download It?

Your best (perhaps only) bet may be to just wait out the outage. frown

If I knew someone running El Capitan, could I drag it onto a USB drive and if so exactly what would I drag?

There's no way to copy OS X with drag & drop; you'd have to clone their entire installation to the drive and then clone it back to your own Mac.

If you know someone who's got "Install El Capitan.app" (maybe not precise name) archived you could drag that to a drive and then run the installer on your Mac.

I'm shocked to hear that the Canadian App Store is STILL down! shocked Have you tried calling AppleCare for an update? It doesn't seem like it should be a long-running situation.

The online App Store in British Columbia, CANADA is working fine.

artie,

I am downloading ftk3252456602304584541.pkg

I'm not sure what that will give me. Is it helpful?

From where did you get it? If not directly from Apple, I strongly urge you to trash it.

If, on the other hand, you got it directly from Apple, you'll have to do your own research; you can start with ftk3252456602304584541.pkg - Google Search. (It looks like you'll have to manipulate your download before you'll be able to use it as an installer.)

I've never run across your situation before, and I can't offer any more advice that I'd feel comfortable giving you.

(The App Store is still down? You've waited this long to take the plunge, why not just wait out the outage and be certain of what you've got?)

I did a back up just prior to downloading so if there is a problem, I'll be okay.

I'll let you know if I get over my head.

I tried to open it but said it could not open it because of an error.

Perhaps for the best.

There are links on the Google page that point to the solution to your problem; I didn't get completely into it, but it looks to me like it's a pretty advanced project.

Yes I did google it and it is quite an involved procedure. Downloading without

going through the app store.

I'm playing bridge on Monday so I'll ask around to see if anyone has el capitan,

I might get lucky.

Why can't you get El Cap from the Canadian App Store? As far as I can tell it's up and running?

I now have El capitan 10.11.6...I got it from a phone # under support in the US surprisingly. I got it the long way round but I found upon reverting back to SL, I only have 48 itunes out of over 4 thousand and I have tried everything I can think of but no joy. When I was being walked through the procedure, I inadvertently downloaded it over my HD but I had a back-up so I wasn't too concerned. I then superdupered it to my previously erased external HD. I then erased my HD and again used superduper to copy my back-up rikiki HD to my regular HD. Why the rikiki HD also has only 48 itunes I don't know. Does anyone have any idea where they might be?

Nice that you finally got El Cap, but I really hope your music situation isn't as bad as it sounds!

Is 48 the number of songs in /Users/yourshortusername/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music or is it the number of songs you see in your iTunes window?

Edit: Which version of iTunes have you got?

I eventually found over 4K itunes which have now been installed. I then did a back-up. Quite a trip!
Thanks for your input.
