I've done it by accident before, but can't find how to do it.

If your mac divorces its wireless mouse, what's the hotkey to open the bluetooth setup assistant to set up the mouse again, with only the keyboard working?

I don't know about hot keys, but assuming Finder keyboard navigation works the same way in Snow Leopard as it does in Leopard, you could always command-tab to Finder (if necessary), then command-shift-g to invoke the Go to Folder dialog, then type in /System/Library/CoreServices/ and hit Return, then start typing Bluetooth...

If that's too much typing, you could use command-shift-c to open a Computer window instead, then use the arrow keys to navigate down to the same point.

Or is this something that happens a lot and therefore needs an instant fix? wink

that'll work, I should have known to look in coreservices for it. I find it interesting that in that dialog, when selecting, the arrow keys work everywhere including radio buttons. Not that they shouldn't, but it just seems all too common for programmers to fumble on the 5 in places like that.

At least under Leopard if you've accidentally triggered the same thing I have, it's Shift-Command-B. It's found in the Services menu as Send File To Bluetooth Device...

Now if someone out there has a brilliant way of removing this service under Leopard, I'd very much appreciate hearing so I can stop accidentally triggering it. I even tried the app Service Scrubber, but it won't let you remove System level services.

THAT'S what I was looking for. Yes I've tripped it several times myself tho I don't recall offhand what I was trying to do. But I use keyboard shortcuts a lot. Half the people that watch me use a computer can't follow me. Some of them tell me I need to use QuickSilver if I'm going to go crazy with the keyboard like that.

Service Scrubber stopped allowing you to edit services that belong to signed applications in OS X 10.5 beginning with v 1.1.4 (I ran into an issue with Mail.app that required its re-installation.), but I'm still running v 1.1.2 (in OS X 10.5.7) with other signed apps having been turned-off or edited.

This screenshot of my current SS configuration will give you some idea of what can be done with no issues with SS 1.1.2; I'll be happy to e-mail you a copy if you're game for some experimentation. (Note that Bluetooth is not shown, because it does not exist on my installation, I've never tried messing with Grab, and I've obviously not messed with Mail again.)

If we had Private Messages here I'd send you my email, but they think we don't need PMs.... go figure right.

To avoid pasting my email in the clear hear, you can go to the rhubarb link in my sig and email me from the contact page. I'll give SS 1.1.2 a shot at least for this one thing.

Done... Please post back if you have any problems with the attachment.

OK, Service Scrubber 1.1.2 did the trick. I guess I'll keep it around for other signed apps at least until I get a Mac with Snow Leopard+ on it.

Thanks for sending the older version.

Excellent! (I'm happy to have been able to help you out. smile )

I don't know why I haven't already done so, but I intend to e-mail Peter Maurer (or whomever SS's developer is at the moment) and advise him of SS 1.1.2's continued functionality with most of Apple's signed apps despite their protestations.

Just remember to not mess with Mail! (I turned off one of Grab's functions a few hours ago with no ill effects.)

I didn't try it during the 30 minutes I had SL installed, but who knows...?

Can't run SL here, so that's not a problem, and I really don't have a need to disable anything else unless it get's in my way like the bluetooth key was.

What got in my way was the unwieldy size of my Services menu when Apple's signed apps were not turned off.
