The other day I downloaded the .dmg file for OS X 10.8 MOUNTAIN LION.

Upon opening that file, I got the (expected) INSTALL OSX MOUNTAIN LION APP (with his little face). I installed and all went well.

I knew the .dmg file would "disappear" once the INSTALL APP had been used but expected the INSTALL APP to appear and remain in the Applications folder. It is not there . . . nor anywhere, as far as I can tell.

During the download/install process, I made a copy of the works on a Flash Drive and - no surprise - the INSTALL OSX APP appears there.

But should this same file have stayed somewhere on the computer as well?

P.S. Or perhaps it is just that my 'marble bag' is officially empty! crazy

The Mountain Lion installer deletes itself at the end of the install process and does not remain on your computer unless you save it before running the install app. If you need it again, it can be downloaded from the app store at no cost providing you use the same app store account where you purchased it in the first place.

Ah . . . I did save the installer on a flash drive (and on a DVD) BEFORE I installed the OS. (I just thought that only the downloaded .dmg file was deleted, but that "The Installer" would remain.)

Thanks for the clarification.
