Question:

How do I download COPYPASTER (for free?). The link just takes me to the Apps Store, but I cannot find the download information . . . or am I just being dense? (Don't answer the second question if it is true.) grin

At the App store, right below the red CopyMaster icon, is the button for Download. (You may need to log-in to the Apple store if you have not already.)

Any joy?

OK. How does one login to the Apps Store?

This may help

Thanks for the link.

However, that link is to an application form for an Apple ID (i.e. I already have a valid APPLE ID from when I purchased/registered my MBP in January 2011.)

I cannot locate any LOGIN or SIGNIN spot on any of the APPLE Home Pages, or the iTUNES page, or the APPS store sites.

P.S. APPLE is not making it easy for me to find them, so I guess they are not too interested in my business. Oh, well.

frown

UPDATE: Apparently, I have to go to the APPS STORE and select the app I would like . . . THEN, a drop-down menu asks me for my AppleID. (i.e. I did a search for COPYPASTER, found it, then entered my Apple ID in the drop-down menu. It seemed like I was on my way.)

HOWEVER, another window opened that said I had not made a purchase yet with iTUNES.

Conclusion: "Free" apps are not available until some kind of purchase is made on iTUNES???

Can anyone enlighten me on how this whole APPLE STORE-thing is supposed to work?

Are you trying to do this all through Safari exclusively?... or have you downloaded the actual App Store.app itself? (via Software Update, iirc).

Else, download a free song or video from iTunes and see if that does the trick.

Thanks for the input.

The APPS STORE application came pre-installed with my new MBP - the icon was in the dock.

I use FIREFOX as a browser and click on the APPS icon in the dock, but can proceed no further after trying to SIGN IN to the Apps Store (i.e. get the "no purchase yet with iTunes" message), so SIGN IN is incomplete.

I don't use any of Apple's vending machines, but I wonder if your issue with the Mac App Store is that Apple hasn't got your credit card number which, for some reason, must be entered via the iTunes Store?

I have purchased and use several apps through App Store. To download a Mac App Store application
  1. Launch the App Store apploication on the dock
  2. On the menu bar click on Store > Sign In...
  3. Enter your Apple ID and password or click on Create to create a new Apple ID and password
  4. Find the application you want to install and click on Buy. You are buying the application even if it is free — this is Apple's way of tracking the applications you have installed and enforcing DRM.
  5. When prompted :Are you sure you want to buy and download xxxx" click on buy -- even if it is a free app
  6. App Store will automatically install your app with no further action on your part. No browser is needed or indeed can be injected into this process. If it is a free app there will be no charges made to your account either.

The iTunes App Store for iPhone and iPad applications or music works exactly the same way except using the iTunes application.

Thanks artie505 and joemikeb.

I will give your ideas a spin. I have ordered nothing from iTunes or the App Store (free or paid), but presumed my Credit Card info was already stored "somewhere at APPLE" when I used it to order my MBP.

I will let you know if I get over the hurdles using the info you both provided.

Thanks, again.

Update:

Success . . . to a point. $$$ smirk

I entered the Credit Card information through using the APPS STORE HOME PAGE. Note: Be sure to complete the salutation box (Mr., Mrs., Ms, etc.). It is easy to overlook, but not doing so will not allow one to continue with the application form process.

P.S. I found the Copypaster app. (However, it is not a free app as mentioned above, but costs $1.99)

Well it was free 3 days ago. They musta had a change of heart... or perhaps offered it free only temporarily, to get the word out. (also, keep in mind that other wares with this functionality weigh in at over $20 regularly).

That change must have been very recent... as MacUpdate still (as of current post time) lists it as free.

Using the MacUpdate in the link above . . .

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/37728/copypaster

. . . takes one to the following APPS STORE page:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/copypaster/id416439303?mt=12

Fee: Listed at $1.99

MacUpdate is not so up-to-date! grin
