What would you pack in a "go bag"?
I understand the concept, but never really gave it much thought until lately.
What would you back other than a passport, cash, credit cards and a change of underwear.
Mind, as I live five miles south of Trafalgar Square, I don't think I'm going anywhere...
Your back up drive(s) and medications, eye glasses.
Now, let's see... am I going, or coming?
I have a "go" wheelbarrow for my medications.
In an "off the top of my head order" and not in any particular precedence or importance...
3" folding knife, diamond coated sharpening plate, ceramic knife sharpener, Space blanket, matches and/or lighter, solar-charged flashlight, fishing line and hooks, carefully curated multitool, water bottle, water filter/purifier, solar-charged radio, tomahawk/hatchet, 100 feet of nylon rope, survival rifle(?) and 1 brick of .22 long rifle shells (or similar), spare socks, multi-season nylon shell jacket, wide-brim hat, a mililtary grade lensatic compass, regional terrain map (preferably on fabric or waterproof paper), high energy protein bars, magnifying lens, small metal hand-mirror, sewing kit, a fully-equipped and trained battalion of experienced U.S. Army Rangers or Marines
Ha! Now I need two wheelbarrows!
But maybe I can ask the Marines to push one of my wheelbarrows for me.
No, this is not how I planned to spend my retirement. If we get a 20-minute warning, that will give me enough time for a couple glasses of Sazerac Rye, then go stand in the middle of the common and face north to the centre of London with my arms wide open.

When I was a child (1950s), NYC schools had air raid drills as preparation for a nuclear attack. We had to crouch under our desks. Somehow, I fail to see how that would have helped. As the saying goes, "In case of nuclear attack, bend over, put your head between your knees, look up, and kiss your ass goodbye."
When I was a child (1940s) we worried about bomb-carrying balloons launched from German U-boats and/or Japanese subs along all our coasts, and everyone I knew (including me) had an immediate male family member in uniform and in harm's way. We bought savings stamps and war bonds in school, helped out mothers count their ration points, and rode the "interurban" because gasoline, along with tires and bubblegum, was rationed.

When I was a child, 1930s, we worried about waking up each morning...I was blown out of my bed once when a bomb exploded 2 streets away.
The city I lived only lost about 500 lives...nothing compared to London, Coventry etc.
