We're developing a Mac FAQ that will provide answers to (surprise, surprise) frequently asked Mac-related questions. Our hope is for this to be a community project, with FineTunedMac members suggesting and/or writing up possible candidates and as a group hashing out the content as necessary to arrive at clear and accurate answers. Once approved by FineTunedMac staff, finished FAQs will be added to the read-only Frequently Asked Mac Questions (FAMQ) forum.

The Mac FAQ Discussion forum Read Me explains in more detail but basically the Mac FAQ Discussion forum is where the work will be done to create new FAQs, and if/as the need arises will also be the place to discuss updates or improvements to those already entered in FAMQ. To try to avoid requests for troubleshooting assistance or other misplaced topics/replies, posting in Mac FAQ Discussion is restricted; you'll need to ask for and receive permission before being able to post there. (Note: you must be logged in at the FineTunedMac forums to access the Mac FAQ Discussion forum or any posts therein, including the "Read Me".)

If you'd like to participate in Mac FAQ Discussion, please reply to this thread acknowledging that you understand the purpose of that forum and requesting posting privileges. I'll add you to the approved list ASAP and reply here to let you know you're good to go.

PS - If my explanation isn't clear or you have questions about any of this, please start a new thread here in FineTunedMac Feedback so this one doesn't get cluttered up with tangents.
Well, of course!

Please hook me up, cyn.

Thanks.

Artie

Done! smile
Thanks, cyn.

(Your post has been up since 08/06/09 11:23 PM, 2+ days, and I'm both embarrassed for having taken this long to notice it and surprised at how few others have.

I'm *certain*, though, that the scarcity of responders does not signify a scarcity of willingness.)

Actually, I wrote it up then but had it tucked away out of sight 'til a few hours ago. Should have redone to avoid confusion...oops!

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to clear that up right away so the thread can stick to requests now. smile

Aaah ha!

So I can stop the self-flagellation for not having seen something that was nowhere to be seen. wink

Sign me up also, cyn. I promise to write about only those things that I really know! wink
I live but to serve and obey, and be certain that I post only true facts.

I've added you both.
Knock, knock.

Who's there?

Oooh, oooh, is that a Frequently Asked Question, or is it not? May I answer? Oh darn, did I just answer a question with a question? Did I just do it again?

Will you sign me up if I promise to stop being silly?

You're in! grin
Won't the need for a faq-making faq lead to some sort of temporal loop?

may as well hook me up also, I've already been invited to FAQ a post or two here.

You're all set.
I'd like to join too, maybe for some editing.

Done.
Posted By: roger Re: Posting privileges for Mac FAQ Discussion - 08/29/09 01:46 PM
me, too, please?
Posted By: cyn Re: Posting privileges for Mac FAQ Discussion - 08/29/09 03:56 PM
You're set.
(As previously posted) I still use OS9 applications, daily. You'll have plenty of experts on OSX apps - which I also use daily - but if you want someone to talk about/respond to older (but still magnificent!) software or hardware issues, then I'm your man. Probably.

I've added you to the group. If you have an idea for an FAQ related to OS 9 or older hardware, feel free to bring it up in Mac FAQ Suggested Topics or write it up. And of course you're welcome to help with any of the OS X topics too.

In the 32 bit or 64 bit FAQ, you could change "will offer to install Rosetta any time you attempt to launch..." to "will offer to install Rosetta the first time you attempt to launch...".

Hmmmm...perhaps a re-read of this thread's first post would be helpful.
Posted By: Dave Re: Posting privileges for Mac FAQ Discussion - 09/07/09 03:47 AM
I understood the purpose of this thread. I'm only trying to help. I tried to send a PM to the author of the post I quoted and see that still, "Private messages are disabled", so I posted in this thread.

Why not reply to this thread acknowledging that you understand the purpose of the Mac FAQ Discussion forum and requesting posting privileges there?
Posted By: Dave Re: Posting privileges for Mac FAQ Discussion - 09/07/09 04:47 AM
Because I don't consider myself to be qualified to be able to help in any capacity other than editing. Quoting from this post of mine, "To put things into context, although I've owned Apple computers exclusively since 1988, I'm not a power user at all. Everything I've learned about using my computer was not due to interest but out of necessity. To me, my computer is just a tool, and I've only learned what I've had to in order to do what I needed to do."
Posted By: cyn Re: Posting privileges for Mac FAQ Discussion - 09/07/09 05:31 AM
Don't sell yourself short. Power user or not, editing is a HUGE part of writing these Mac FAQs and if you've got suggestions for more accurate or just plain clearer wording that's valuable input.

I went ahead and added you to the group. smile
And me (please)?

You're in. cool
Please add me to the group. I have some info about separate hardware test discs that could be added to the Install Disc FAQ.

You're good to go.
Will it be possible to register me to cyn ?
