I've made a move to a larger, more robust database hosting plan. It will take about 24 hours for the new database hosting plan to take effect; after that point, I'll have more than triple the database bandwidth, which should (knock on wood) solve the problem.

The site might experience momentary (one or two minute) glitches over the next few hours, but it shouldn't need to be taken offline for this change. Bear with me, and let me know starting tomorrow evening if you see any change in the forum's performance, for better or for worse.
Thanks, looking forward! If you start running into $ issues with all this, please don't hesitate to reach out.

PS: Considering all the pains a site as buzzworthy as Twitter keeps going through, should be a breeze to hang in here... wink
cool. thanks, tacit!
The upgrade seems to have made a significant improvement. I'm not waiting for a page, the response is well withing limits that I'm used to.

In fact, it's a bit snappier than over on CNET.
Agreed, it was still a little funky early this AM, but it's been cruising ever since. Fingers crossed! smile
3:30 AM EDT, Thurs, 8-20, and all is well! smile
It seems to be moving faster. The trace times to the server are the same. Ending here at secureserver.net with a trace block to your location 208.109.62.65

I still see severe slowdowns at times, but not as bad or as frequently as they used to be. Midday (peak perhaps?) and late evenings EDT (maintenance perhaps?) seem most affected. I'll take closer note of times going forward.
There don't seem to be the same time lags I was previously experiencing. Much zippier. No more fresh bread (see this link for the relevance of that statement). smirk
