I've looked around a bit and haven't yet got an answer. For audio, are a CD and DVD interchangeable? For example, if I want to burn some purchased iTunes music that is too long for a CD, may I burn it to a DVD to get it all on a disk, then play that DVD disk in a CD player in my car?

Thanks

Mods,

I've found a discussion on this exact question on another forum.

I really do not want to ruffle any feathers, so can I post the link, which would really help Mainely Rick?

It's quite a long thread, and I don't have the time to lift all the answers for him and post them here.

Best wishes

You can certainly post links relevant to Rick's query. In fact, that's the preferred procedure, as opposed to reproducing potentially copyrighted material here. That said, it may also be legal to post a summary, which should always include proper attribution to the source of the material. cool

Ok Alt, thanks.

Rick, having a few minutes spare earlier in the day, I put your query into Google and it immediately yielded this discussion - with practically the same initial query - on another forum.

Here's the link:

Hope that helps.

Apart from what you might learn from Bensheim's link, I can briefly say the following. You cannot make a standard audio CD using a DVD, because the ('Red Book' Audio CD) format simply won't allow it. However, you can make MP3 (data) disks, be they CD or DVD, but whether they will play back in your car depends on the disk player there. The more recent the car/player, the more likely that it is compatible with MP3 disks including MP3 DVDs.

This information has cleared up all my questions and then some. Thank you for the help.
