so im trying to download VLC player onto my mac and it keeps telling me unknown error would that be because of the mac or the internet

so im new to the Macintosh system, and im trying to download the VLC player for my mac and it wont download. is something im doing or is VLC not very compatible with mac? please reply quick i cant watch my movies.

- At what point do you see that error message... During/after d/l, when you try to open the .dmg file, some other time?
- Please post the text of the error message verbatim and tell us which app/utility is generating it.
- Exactly which MacBook are you running?
- Which version of OS X are you running?
- Which version of VLC are you trying to d/l and from where?

VLC runs just fine on my MacBook.

fireantoef10, I pulled your post (and artie's reply to it) out of Download issues and combined that branch with your "Not compatible???" thread, and gave the combo a new subject line...should make troubleshooting easier all around.

FWIW, FireAnt and I shared a table together at the WiFi hotspot over here in Far far away land and I got her up and running with Perian and FLip4Mac to resolve her movie-watching issue......VLC player not required.

Wow! I always knew it was a tiny world, but I think your story trumps most of the others I've heard.
Did you, by any chance, pin down her VLC issue, or can you give us deeper insight into it?

We simply side-stepped the VLC Player download (the connection speed was VERY SLOW that day) and I pushed her the .dmg files to install Perian and Flip4Mac.....and that resolved her inability to play Windows-based movie files by adding the needed CODECS to allow them to play properly in QuickTime Player.
...additionally, I had the Mac OS X 10.6.5 Combo Updater .dmg and the Delta .dmg for the 10.6.6 update, so we got her up-to-date system-wise as well.
