imac 2009 OS 10.5.8 4GB ram 300BG HD
Is there any software (free if possible) that will give the status of my battery?
I'm not having any problems at the moment but just in case.

Open system profiler, select power, look at the battery section. MacTips has a guide to using system profiler to get battery information. There are also multiple freeware and shareware titles (such as Coconut Battery) for more user-friendly summaries. Oh wait a minute, iMac? You mean the pram battery? hmmm no I don't think there's any way to test that from software.

I have just opened system profiler, power, but there is no battery section that I can see. As we speak? I am downloading coconutbattery. It says download for macBook/pro/air. That would include imac I presume? I just got the message that imac is not suported...in case anyone else reads this.

jaybass You missed the gist of V1's post... The only battery in an iMac is its PRAM battery, and there is apparently no way to check on its status, either Apple or 3rd party. The part of V1's post to which you responded dealt with the batteries in Mac notebooks.

The only battery in an iMac is its PRAM battery, and there is apparently no way to check on its status, either Apple or 3rd party. Agreed and as far as I can tell there is no hardware sensor for the backup (a.k.a. PRAM) battery that could be accessed. However if you have a UPS attached to your iMac and a USB connection between the iMac and UPS, System Preferences > Energy Saver > UPS does have a switch to display the status of the UPS battery on the Menu Bar.
If we knew what it was we were doing, it wouldn't be called research, would it?

Artie, Obviously I wasn't aware there is only (1) battery in an imac...thank you.
And joe, I do not have a UPS.
BTW, Is it difficult to change the battery if necessary?
I remember changing one in my old emac without any trouble.
